    2. Michelle Campbell
    3. Hi, It's been a while since I've asked this, but does anyone have the Weidenkampf family in their Oshkosh research? It's an odd enough surname to be generalized and sweeping in my question. I have this family in my line through marriage, and am trying to find out to more about them. It seems, in Oshkosh, my Lemke's married into this line at various points, and I'd like to correspond with someone who is working on this surname to learn more about them. ~Michelle

    1. [WIWinneb'go] James W. Taylor Winnibago Co.
    2. Dawn Carpenter
    3. Hi, I am new to this list. I am looking for information on the family of James W. Taylor. His parents arrived in WI from England about 1834. James was born in England about 1828. He is my husband's great grandfather. I am looking for any information on James, his parents and siblings. I found James in Winnibago Co. WI in the 1860 Census Index. "James W, Taylor, Winnibago, Co. WI. Township about 4 miles west of Oshgosh." He married Mary Hepner in WI. By 1870 he was living in Cass Co. MI with Mary and 6 children. The 1890 GAR Census has him listed as; James W. Taylor, Private Company I, 27th Infantry, Clay Center, WI. He was living in Polk Co. NE, where he remained for the rest of his life. (I think) I hope to find information on his parents, & siblings (or advice on how to find additional information) on James and his parents. Thank you, Dawn Carpenter

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/525.2 Message Board Post: Well, no, this photo cannot necessarily be dated that exactly. This list of photographers at http://www.jansdigs.com/Winnebago/photographers.html gives the dates of city directories which listed them at each address. Directories were not published every year. These years and addresses are listed for Cook Ely: 1879 Ely, Cook 2 Elm St. (north of Algoma Blvd) 1883 Ely, Cook 25 Elm St. 1889 Ely, Cook 334 Algoma St. 1893-95 Ely, Cook 338 Algoma St. So somewhere between 1879 and 1883 he moved to 25 Elm and sometime before 1889 he moved to Algoma. I don't know why 1884-5 and 1886-7 directories are not listed. Maybe he moved away and came back, or maybe the researcher missed him. The Winnebago County marriage records do not show an Elizabeth Bell getting married here. The obit index at http://www.oshkoshpubliclibrary.org/obituaryindex/ lists only an Elizabeth MacKinnon who died in March 1968 as a close match.

    3. Hi, I found August E.56 and Sophia 57 Becker living in Omro on the 1910 census with son Harry H. 13. They have been married 34 years at this time, had 7 children with 7 living, both born Germany and all their parents born Germany. August says immigrated 1872 and naturalized. Sophia says imm. 1873, no nat. date, so they apparently got married in the US. Let me know if this is the right family and I'll look some more tomorrow. 3. On the 1930 US Census, WI, Oshkosh City, 6th Ward for Henry and Hulda Luker it shows daughter Arcile, 17 and son LaVerne 10?14 (smudged); Henry's father b. England, mother US; Hulda's parents both born Germany. My friend remembers a Becker Music Store in downtown Oshkosh on Main St. from his high school days. He said they sold instruments and gave lessons, etc. His father owned an appliance store down the street from them. Hope this helps a little, will look for August and Sophia. 3. Thank you very much for your kind e-mail. The info I have on the deed for August Abraham is as follows: In left-hand corner of page is no. 256. Deed is dated 10 Sept 1868 between Willaim Ruge and Friedericke his wife of first-part and August Abraham of second part, all of Winnebago County, Wisconsin all of the following described real estate and premises situated in the town of Nekimi, County of Winnebago, State of Wisconsin and described as the South half of South half of North East quarter section twenty seven (27) town (?) seventeen (17) range sixteen (16) East. I am interested when August sold this land. Maybe he gave it to Emilie. I believe this is read correctly but not sure if "town" is the word with the question mark after it. How many acres would this have been? He had a large family so I hope they were able to make a go of it. They did move to Missouri but Emilie stayed behind and married Gustav Schmidt in Winnebago County evidently. I haven't been able to trace her and Gustav after their marriage so far. Perhaps someone will read this and have more information on the Schmidt's. You all are so helpful there in Winnebago County.
