Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/205.2.1 Message Board Post: I am the granddaughter of Herbert Peters who married Arlene Owen in Outagamie County. Herbert moved to Oshkosh when he got employment in the area and had many children, including my father, Clinton. Herbert's father, Hans Peters b. 9/1/1852 d. 12/19/1920 was from Cicero Township, Outagamie County and owned a farm right next to his brother, John's farm. Hans had many children. With his first wife, Wilhelmina Roefslen (whom he married in Manitowoc Co.) he had the following children: Henry, Charles, William, Hans, Lillie, Edward, Daizy, Walter, and Herman. He then married Rose Bahr and had Elsie, Minnie, Herbert (my grandpa), Luella, Lester, and Harvey. Hans and John also had two other sibs, George and Anna, but I don't know what happened to them. Hans was the son of Hans H. Peters and Christina (MNU). Christina went on to marry a John Rothmann in Manitowoc County and she is buried there. Any connections?

"Bride" would fit if you allow the "o" part of the "d" to not touch the "l" part. It's a stretch, but possible. It's also promising in that it gives her a Western connection and this photo ended up in an antique shop in Boise, Idaho. I like the family below to be hers, even though they are in California. Note that the (***). On familysearch.org, it gives her mother's place of birth as Scotland. The actual census record says "NY". This is a match for Elizabeth Bell, daughter of Adam and Mary of Oshkosh, WI. AND, the firstborn son bears the name of her brother. Now, it does make Mr. McBride a Daniel, not a Donald, but those are very simlar names. It still doesn't account for the Spokane connection, but, as she lived another 63 years past the 1880 census, maybe they moved. :) What do you think? 1. [WIWinneb'go] Lenz
    2. Does anyone know Menasha history? Recently, I purchased The Post-Crescent’s book, Fox Cities Memories – A Pictorial History. On page 21, within the chapter titled Commerce and Industry, is a 1920 photograph of the Hotel Lenz, purported to be at Racine and Third Streets in Menasha. My maternal great-grandfather’s name was Ferdinand Lenz and he lived and died in Hilbert in Calumet County. His daughter, Anna Lenz, was my grandmother. She and her husband, my grandfather, John Voit, lived on Second Street in Menasha, just two blocks away from this hotel site. In doing my genealogy work, I have conducted extensive research into the history of Menasha and seeing this photo in the book was the first time I had ever encountered a business called the Hotel Lenz. I have already contacted the Menasha Historical Society, but am trying to cover all the bases. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. David Galassie

The Ruidl's were from Black Forest, Germany, and the DeSmedt's were Belgiums. The oldest Ruidl's I have are Edward and Karl Ruidl. I know nothing more on Karl, but Edward was born 1874, and died 4 Feb 1941 in St. Louis Co., Mn. Edward married Cathrine (Kathrine) Ann Ziegler (b. 1885, d. 25 Jul 1952 St. Louis Co., Mn). They had about 8 kids -- Dorothy, Michael, Edward 'Eddy', Patrick 'Pat', Loraine, Mary, Alice, and Selina (Sally), I've been told by family members and friends that it was thought that Edward had been briefly in Wisconsin before coming on to Minnesota. It's also believed that he came to Wisconsin straight from Germany. The oldest DeSmedt's I have are: Charles 'Carolus' and his wife Elodie. Charles died mysteriously in a barn fire accident in Belgium before Elodie and her children came over to the U.S. The Children are as follows: Maurice Joseph DeSmedt (b.13 Feb 1894 - Belgium, d. 16 Jun 1975, Duluth, Mn. -- married to Rosie Mosiniak), Aime, Marshall, Ester, Elsie, Mary, Omer, Robert, and Albert. I wish I could verify all this for my family's sake! If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! I don't have ANY idea where else to look!

    1. [WIWinneb'go] Sonnenberg's in Winnebago/Fond du Lac Counties
    2. Michelle Campbell
    3. Howdy Listers, Is anyone else working on the surname Sonnenberg in Winnebago or Fond du Lac counties? I'm not sure, but I think there may have been a couple of different family lines in this area, of which I'm researching one. My line starts with Friederick Sonnenberg (s/o Gottlieb) b. September 9, 1833. I think he had a couple of brothers that moved in and out of Oshkosh. Gotlieb and Christoph. In his 1879, marriage to Pauline SCHONECK, Gottlieb states that he had been previously married to a woman named Amalie RANTE. Widower. All three men used the spelling, SONNENBERGER in the 1870s, but over time, the name was shortened to SONNENBERG. My Friederick married Friedericke SCHROEDER b. May 1844. They married abt. 1862, but haven't found a marriage record, yet. The couple had 9 children. 1. Louise A. b. July 8, 1863 m. William Love 2. Oswald b. !866 m. Minnie Bergman 3. Reinhold b. August 1868 m. Bertha ? 4. Emma b. 1871 m. ? 5. Ida b. March 1873 m. Heinrich Meske 6. Clara b. 1875, died in 1881 7. Friederick John b. May 5, 1877 m. Ida ? 8. Alma b. February 1880 m. Arthur Pollnow 9. Edward b. February 27, 1882 m. Friedericke ? Friederick and Friedericke owned a large farm in Friendship, Fond du Lac County that was run by his sons after his death in 1896. Friederick is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh. I would like to connect to someone who might be able to help me with what ever happened to Friederick's wife Friedericke. I've been able to follow the kids pretty well through marriage and census records...but the mother has escaped me. LAST SIGHTING: In the 1919 Oshkosh city directory it is believed that Fredericke was found living at 112 E. Lincoln Ave. If this is the Fredericke Schroeder who married Friedrick Sonnenberg, she would be about 75 years old. By the 1920 listing however, she is no longer in Oshkosh. Also in town are her son Reinhold and his wife, Bertha, at 275 Scott. And Charles Sonnenberg also resides in Oshkosh for the 1919 directory listing at 2005 Oregon. Thanks ~Michelle
