    1. [WIWinneb] ancesters from Burgenland area in Austria
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: RESCH, HACKSTOCK, RAAB, HANDLER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/572 Message Board Post: Hi everybody, Happy New Year. I am looking for other people who have ancesters that may have came from the Burgenland / Eisenstadt area in Austria, and settled in Winnebago Co. My Resch ancesters came from Breitenbrunn, Burgenland Austria, which was part of Hungary at the time. They came to the US in 1855 and to Menasha sometime in the 1870's. I know of three other families that came from the Burgenland area and settled in Menasha about the same time, Hackstock's, Handler's and Raab's. I'm sure there were probably more, as I have heard that it was apparently a destination for early emigrants from that area. Apparently the living conditions here were not as good as expected and the people wanted to go back to their homeland.I would be very interested to find any pictures of early settlers from the area, or any letters or other means of communication from this area to Burgenland or Burgenland to Winnebago Co. Also, does anybody know of a village Historian or such from the Burgenland, that one could get in touch with to find out such information. My g-g-grandfather was supposedly the equivelant of mayor back in Breitenbrunn, and I would like to know if there is any information or maybe a picture regarding this. Thank you, Bobbi

    3. Hi Donna, I couldn't find an obit in the newspaper articles I have access to online but I did find an intersting article in the Daily Northwestern of Oshkosh on 18 Feb 1889 listed under Short Notes. "Charles E. Colburn, representing the Union Mutual Accident Association of which William McNabb is agent in this city, was here today to settle the claim of $2,000 held in his company by William O'Brien." I didn't find an article that said what that claim was for. Was your Charles Colburn an insurance agent?
