He died on 7-14-1929 and was married to a Susan May Reidberger. Her date of birth is listed as 11-2-1876 and died 2-4-1932. Is this your relative? There is a Baptist Church in Allenville, Winnebago Cty., Wisconsin and I have relatives that go to this church. I will ask for you.

Is this something you'd be willing to share with other people? I'm trying to find the "record keepers" for these long gone churches. I have only been able to track down the records for Boltonville and Greenbush, but there were over 100 Free Will churches throughout Wisconsin at one time or another.

It functioned between at least 1872 and 1903, but could be longer. Do you know if your great grandfather was a Free Will Baptist or a "conventional" Baptist. There was a difference at the time, and unfortunately local histories often did not realize this. I have not found the keeper of the church records yet for Winneconne, nor have I found the "history" of it yet either. There were several in Winnebago County. If you tell me a little more about what you know about your great grandfather we might be able to together figure it out.

I was shocked that you had John Schneider's name carved in your basement. Unfortunately, out of all the Schneider children, I know the least with John. I don't have my genealogy stuff right in front of me, but I'll look-up what I have and talk with my 82 year old grandmother as well. She started much of the research and I've taken over from her. If you'd like to email me directly, feel free to do so. My email is: jpeters@aflcioletc.org Thanks again! John Peters Marshfield, WI

But you can learn a great deal about the Black Wolf families by ordering in the church records. They were very good. They told who the parents of couples were, and even went back to relate connections in Germany. I keep a copy of a newspaper clipping about the family we were looking at. Fred G. Schneider died at Havre, Montana in 1932. He was born at Black Wolf on 8 Sept 1880. He moved to Fon du Lac, Wis to work on the Soo RR. In 1912 he brought his family to Montana. He was survived by a wife and daughter, Marlen Annabel; five sisters, Mrs C. Westfall of Fon du Lac; Mrs A. F. Buller of Oshkosh, Wis; Miss Pauline Schneider of Black Wolf; and Wm. G. Schneider of Gettsburg, SD. Here is a census I have on hand: 1900 at Black Wolf Schneider, Sophia born 1843, age 57 widow born in Germany came in 1859 Pauline born Nov 1866, 33 single born Wis Dorothea born May 1876 age 24 single born Wis Henry born Aug 1879 age 20, Wis Fred G. Sept 1880, 19 Single Wis Albert C. born May 1883, 17, Wis Edward B. born May 1885, 15, Wis I have other census, if you need them. I believe the other surname associated with the family was Zenter. Sorry, I am not related. Just like genealogy.

The Black Wolf film of the church records were really great! We had to go back to about 1850 and work forward to find some living members of two families. One family had 12 children, and only one heir! And she was the lady who had died that we researched. The other side of the family had 7 children, if I remember correct, and three members of this family had living children. You must live in the house he lived in.

Waller, but I didn't believe he was there, so this just confirms it. I am trying to comprise information regarding the different Free Will churches in Wisconsin, as they don't seem to have been very well covered in local histories. I would sincerely love to learn more about this church. You mentioned that your mother was the historian. Did she ever do any type of write up regarding the full history and the ministers that served there? Thank you again for your time!!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/701.1 Message Board Post: According to Civil War Veterans of Winnebago County by David A. Langkau, Jacob was living in the Wisconsin Veterns Home at King, Waupaca County, at the time of the 1900 census. His wife was named Martha; they were married in 1879. With that information it was easy to find them on the 1880 census through www.familysearch.org. The census taker spelled the last name as Rheiner, but everything else matches. Daughter Nellie was 6 years old. Did Fanny die in the 1874-1879 time period? So Jacob is probably buried at the Veterans Home. Here's their website: http://dva.state.wi.us/Misc_KingHome.asp Civil War Veterans of Winnebago County has very little information on Jacob Schneider; if you wold be willing to share that information, I can pass it on to David Langkau. Thanks.
