    3. People can better help you if you would include names, dates (or time frame), and locations of your ancestors. I am in Winneconne everyday and could check cemetery records for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Emjayak@aol.com> To: <WIWINNEB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 11, 2003 12:11 PM Subject: Re: [WIWinneb'go] M E Church, Menasha, 1890s > I too had ancestors buried in the ME Church in Menasha and Winneconne in the > 1800s. 3. Carol - I forwarded your email to my cousin in Menasha who made some queries about your ancestors' church and this is what he found: OK, I did what I could. There is a lady from the Menasha Historical Society who has some records from this church which stopped services sometime in the 1920s and was torn down in 1932. However, she will not give out her e-mail address but said if she could get the NAME, ADDRESS, and TEL NO of the person who wants to know and the name of the one who is buried from there, she would call them if she had the information. She prefers talking to e-mail. >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Classification: Query > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/431 > >Message Board Post: > >Some of my husband's ancestors were buried through the M E Church at >Menasha in the late 1800s. 3. These certificates need to be ordered via the Winnebago County Courthouse, Winnebago County Court House c/o Register of Deeds 415 Jackson Street P.O. Box 2808 Oshkosh, WI 54903-2808 The cost is the same whether you order certified or uncertified. You can order them them yourself ........I would have to pay the same price. I don't usually get these for people because of the cost and I just can't afford to be doing that. I do look-ups but not purchasing. When ordering, include the info you sent me and state your relationship, and don't forget to sign your letter! Without a signature they will return your request. They will mail them out the same day they get your request. DON'T FORGET YOUR SIGNATURE! It is faster to order them thru the County rather than the State Office. Last I heard the State was behind about 6 weeks. 3. Lee, I just looked up A. O. Parasons and here is what I found. A. O. Parsons In WI in Winnebago Co., Winnebago township in 1850--Listed on pg. 518. There is also O. A. Parsons listed in the 1855 WI census, listed in Marquette Co., Berlin township, and that is listed on pg 072. Again, there were no images to view, so if you were looking for more of the people who lived with him, I can't help at this time. If you have a Federal Bldg. close to you, they have census records for all states. They were a big help to me. 3. Lee, I can't help you with the indexes, but if your family lived here around 1970's-1980's (yes 1970) then it would be worth your while to check out Jefferson Elemantary near the Menasha pool. Send St. and Konemac St. There was a Mr. Parsons who was a principal there (I don't know for how long). (My brother knew him when he went there) He lived on Plummers Harbour off Rainbow Beach Rd. along the lake in Neenah where he was a distant neighbor for a time. I do not have any connections to this family, but like to help out with tid bits if I can. I'm sorry I don't know his first name. Kim Pollard Drew, MS. That's why I was hoping for an index answer. Don't spend your time browsing - if it comes to that, I'll do it. Surnames: Blakely, Blackman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/432 Message Board Post: Looking for descendants of David Blakely. His wife was Mary Ann (Blackman) Blakely. She died in Neenah on 12 Jan 1867, aged 43 years. They had 4 children -- 1 daughter and 3 sons. One son, Clement Danielson Blakely, drowned in Jones Lake, Montrose, Susquehanna County, PA, on 22 Jun 1872, aged 19 years, 3 months. What I am especially interested in is locating any correspondence that may still exist between Mary Ann Blakely and her sister, Emily Blackman (indeed, any letters written by Emily). The two sisters were very close, although Mary Ann lived in WI and Emily (never married) lived in PA, and I know they corresponded. I am writing a biography of Emily Blackman. She was a teacher (with the Freedmen's Bureau, among others), writer, and world traveler. Finding more of Emily's letters would help me tremendously. Thanks.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/428.5 Message Board Post: Hi, I would like to thank everybody who gave me pointers on doing research in Winnebago Co. Yesterday I went to the courthouse, UWO Polk library, and the Public library. I got a great deal of info, but barely put a dent in my research. I was very pleased with all of these places, they were very friendly and helpful. I could kick myself for not looking up one individual. If anybody has the index books for Winnebago Co., I would just like a date. I am looking for an infant, Rippl (various spellings),child of George Rippl and Rosalia Heitl. this child was born sometime around Feb.or Mar.of 1896. And died appoximately Aug 5, 1896. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BOBBI

I'm interested in learning whether or not this church still exists or if the records still exist. Thank you. Carol S.

Surnames: TURNER, GRISWOLD Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/430 Message Board Post: I am looking for information about (and possibly an obiturary for) Joseph Turner who died 1 Feb 1874 in Menasha, Wisconsin at age 80. I have information about his early life in NY but am not sure who he married (possibly a Griswold). Joseph may have come to Wisconsin as early as 1840 (I found a Joseph Turner who had a person in the household the right age to be him in the 1840 census). His brother Peter was mentioned in the History of Madison, Dane County and Surroundings. Peter came to WI (he was in Palmyra in 1850 & Madison in 1860) before 1850 and stayed until 1871 when he left for the Dakota Territory. Joseph had another brother, Don Carlos (DC) who was in Madison in 1850 & 1860. He also left for Dakota Territory in 1871. The only brother who apparently stayed in Wisconsin was Joseph. Thank you for any help. Blessings, Joanne Turner

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/428.4 Message Board Post: Remember that Neenah and Menasha each had their own newspapers--sometimes more than one--until they merged in 1949 to be the Twin-City News-Record. This was later bought by the Appleton Post-Crescent, which still publishes as weekly News-Record. You can see microfilms of tht papers at the Neenah Public Library (neenahlibrary.org) or E.D. Smith Public Library in Menasha (menashalibrary.org). The public libraries are open longer hours than the UW-Oshkosh Area Research Center or the courthouse. Leader in hours is Oshkosh Public Library, with 9--9 Monday thru Friday, 9--5 on Sat. and 12--6 on Sunday. See Local History and Genealogy sections of oshkoshpubliclibrary.org. Good luck!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CGC.2ACI/425.3 Message Board Post: That's New Brunswick, Canada for sure. John Buckstaff (1799-1884) who married Lucy McCurdy (1800-1877) came from there to Oshkosh in the early 1850s. Their sons were John jr. (1823-1900), George (1837- ) and Robert (1841- ). In a biographical sketch published in 1889, John jr. lists sons Allen in Lincoln NE and Eugene. Could your Jack A. be Jack Allen--or, John Allen nicknamed Jack? John jr wa married twice, first to Lavinia Hopkins (1827-1855), second to Sarah ??? The source for most of this is Illustrated Atlas of Winnebago County by George A. Randall, 1889.
