Obituary Mr. Edmund Chapman Weston was born in Smithfield, Madison county, New York, April 30, 1836. His parents were James and Miranda (Look) Weston, the former a native of Maine and the latter born in New York. His father was a farmer by occupation and in 1851 moved with his family Wisconsin and settled on a farm in Waukesha county. He died there in 1861. The mother afterwards married again to George O'Banion and one son Thomas was born of the second marriage. The children of the first marriage were Edmund C., Lloyd L., and Clarinda Jane. Edmund C. attended the public schools of Smithfield, Madison county, New York and completed his education in the graded schools at Waukesha, Wisconsin. He enlisted in Co. K. Forty-Eighth Wisconsin Volunteer infantry in April, 1865, serving on the borders of Kansas-Missouri and at Denver, fort Lyons, Pueblo, Colorado, serving one year and mustered out of service at Ft. Levenworth in 1866 and receiving an honorable discharge at Madison, Wisconsin the same year. In 1868 he moved his family to Butler county, Iowa, thence to Ottertail county Minnesota, where he entered claim to the homestead he occupied until his death. Mr. Weston was married in Pewauka, Waukesha county, Wisconsin in 1860 to Hulda Ann Hills, daughter of Cromwell and Lucy Hills. Six children were born to this union as follows: Stephen W., Ina Belle, Lauren L., James L., George A., and Albert I. All the children except George A. reside in Ottertail county. Mr. Weston has always been a Republican and in 1899 was elected on that ticket to the state legislature, serving one term. He was a schoolmate of Senator Knute Nelson and Senator Cushman K. Davis. He was a member of the G.A.R. at Wadena. Being an active political worker, having occupied township, county and state offices he gained a wide circle of esteem and universally respected friends. Mr. Weston died Saturday, December 31st, at 8:20p.m. and was buried at Hillview cemetery Wednesday, January 4, 1922, He was 85 years 8 months and 4 days old at time of death. From the Sebeka Review, Dated Friday May, 16,1924 Volume # 26 (Sebeka, Minnesota) Death of Aged Paddock Woman Mrs. E. C. Weston, Pioneer of Paddock Twp., Is Called to Eternal Home. Mrs. Huldah A. Weston went to her place of rest May 7, 1924, at 8:05 P. M., after many years of useful life at the ripe old age of 89 years, 8 months and 3 days. Death was caused from advanced age, heart and other organs of the body becoming inactive, and she slowly passed out in peace and harmony. Deceased was born at Smith-field, State of New York, November 5, 1834. She came with her parents while very young and settled near Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later moved to Waukee county, that state, and resided there many years, and at the age of 27 years she was married to Edmond C. Weston. A few years later they moved to Butler county, Iowa, remaining on a farm there for 15 years, and the last move was made to Minnesota and have lived in Paddock township, Otter Tail county, for the past 44 years. Deceased was a kind and loving mother with a large circle of friends and relatives who held her in the highest esteem. The children were all at her bedside as well as other relatives when the end came. The funeral was held at the home last Saturday and the remains were laid to rest in the Hillview cemetery. Rev. Mrs. E. A. Sauer of St. Paul delivered the sermon. In Appreciation. The Westons moved from Clarksville, Iowa to the vicinity of Vergas, Minnesota in 1883 and lived there for some time, thence moving to Paddock township, homesteading on section 22 and were among the earliest settlers in that part of the country. Albert was the youngest of the family and worked out mostly in the logging industry in his active years. He entered the State Hospital at Fergus Falls several years ago. Recently he was transferred to the Henning Nursing Home where he passed away. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, and one sister, Mrs. George Warner. Funeral services were held Friday, June 28, 1963 at 1:30 p. m. at the Frank Cardini Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Jepson officiating. Hymns were sung by Mrs. Oray Tangen accompanied by Mrs. Carl Jepson. The pallbearers were Severt Nelson, Louis Miller, Sidney Nelson, Emil Nelson, Fred Miller and Max Nelson. Interment was made in the Hillview cemetery. Relatives from out of town attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Mr. Weston died Sunday, October 7, 1984, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Langdon. Erwin was born February 19, 1905, in Sebeka, MN, to Albert and Gertrude (Heuer) Weston. He moved to the Wales area with his family when he was five years old. He grew up and was educated there. He married Irene South April 8, 1931, in Langdon. In the spring of 1936 they moved to a farm near Sarles were he lived and worked until 1970 when he retired from farming. He had been a resident of Maple Manor Nursing Home since 1980. Mr. Weston served several years on the Sarles School board with one term as president of the body. He also served on the Cypress township board. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Sarles where he served on the Presbytery, with one year as a moderator of the assembly. He was also active in the synod. He became a member of Eureka Lodge, Number 87 A.F. and A.M. in 1943 or 1944. He served several years as secretary for the lodge, one year as master and spent his last few years active as the Lodge Chaplain. He was a member of Grand Forks Kem Temple of the Shrine. He served nearly 25 years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cavalier County Rural Electric Cooperative and eight years on the Cavalier County Board of Commissioners. He is survived by his wife, Irene, one daughter, Mrs. Carol Dietz of Homer, AK, four Sons, Herb Weston of Langdon, Richard, Glenn and Harold Weston, all of Sarles, two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Sanford and Mrs. Phoebe Myers, both of Langdon; three brothers, Victor and Peter Brown of Langdon, and Harold Brown of Hannah. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral Services were held Thursday, October 11, 1984, at the Sarles Presbyterian Church in Sarles with Rev. William Rust officiating. Special music was provided by organist Mrs. Darlene Aronson, pianist Andrea Weston, soloist Barry Schafer and the congregation Selections included " Under his Wings" " I Love to Tell the story" and "Faith is the Victory". Burial was in the Sarles Cemetery in Sarles. Serving as pallbearers were Gail Hodgins, Dick States, Glen Goodman, R.K. McDonald, Daryl Woodrow and Robert Murchie. MYRTLE SANFORD Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 24, 1988, for Myrtle Sanford died Sunday, February 21, 1988, at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Langdon. The funeral was held at United Methodist Church, Langdon, with Rev. Grant Piel officiating. Organist for the mass was Mrs. Kathy Uhrich and Eldon and Mary Treleaven and Paul Hankey as soloists. Musical selections included " How Great Thou Art", "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." Interment will be in the Hannah Cemetery, Hannah. Serving as pallbearers were Harley Brown, Gene Brown, Robert Brown, Dale Brown, Herb Weston, Jack Brown and Dennis Restad. All her grandchildren, nieces and nephews served as honorary bearers. Myrtle Christine Sanford was born December 19, 1906, at Paddock Township near Sebeka, MInn., the daughter of Albert and Gertrude (Hoyer) [sic]Weston. She married James Sanford October 12, 1929 in Langdon. She was raised and lived in the Hannah area until 1956. She lived at West Covina, Calif., from 1957 to 1968 and in 1968 to 1980 lived at Hannah. In 1980 she moved to Langdon. She was a member of Rebecca Lodge in Hannah and Methodist Ladies Aid. She is survived by three sons, Howard Sanford of Park River, Russel (Bill) Sanford of Langdon, and Orrin Sanford of Covina, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Peter Brown and Victor Brown of Langdon; and one sister, Mrs. Phoebe Myers of Langdon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Myles; five brothers, Irwin Weston, Alex Brown, Bill Brown, Harold Brown and Gilbert Brown; one sister, Miss Gertrude Brown; one grandchild and two great grandchildren.
