If I had known about it earlier I certainly would be going along!! Is anyone else on-line researching Richford, Coloma, and Coloma Corners in Waushara County, along with Burr Oak, Richfield and Strongs Prairie in Adams County, and Necedah in Juneau County? These are my prime areas of interest in Wisconsin history. I do know a group in Coloma is actively gathering information on that village. Barbara in Alberta, Canada

    3. To the list...I won't be able to take advantage of the tour, but it certainly intrigued me and I gave it a lot of thought. You will all enjoy it and get a lot for your research and just the pleasure of being there. Have fun!! 3. Okay, so Ricky Nelson was right! "You can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself!" I am not sure why I didn't get the e-mails where individuals who felt the notice of this trip was spamming of our list, yet I say to you--just delete them as I delete the messages that are of no value to me! I currently live in Alaska and was intriqued by the trips genealogical-based stops; I considered it until their was a date-conflict! Trust me, I understand about spam mail (I return spammed messges to my ISP at a rate of five+ a day so that they can block them from our service). This mail came to my address--I signed up for information relating to genealogy--the tour information seemed appropriate. Please don't become like the Schleswig-Holstein, Cook-County, Rally-l, and Alasace-Lorraine lists I belong too--learn to use the delete key and learn that the list isn't always about you and what you may want. 1. Not Spam, but GENEALOGY
    2. Barron Co. Wi. History/Genealogy
    3. Apparently a few people on these mailing lists feel that offering a LEGITIMATE TOUR to NEW ENGLAND for the purposes of GENEALOGICAL & HISTORIC RESEARCH is Spam. Personally I have NEVER heard anything so ridiculous. If GENEALOGICAL & HISTORICAL RESEARCH is NOT the TRUE PURPOSE of these mailing list, then I am sorry we let everyone know this TOUR is available. I also am sorry to hear that the true purpose of these lists is idle chit chat about what family reunion is being held, who went to the dr. yesterday, who's Aunt Sadie just had a wart removed, & who retired from Military Service. ~~ Now, to those of you who TRULY enjoy GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH & HISTORY, & enjoy the idea of having a chance of walking on the same ground your ancestors once walked upon, who truly want a chance to do RESEARCH at the NATIONAL HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY & find the graves of their ancestors, I say this. Please contact us by phone or in an e-mail to us directly at: [email protected] This way we will NOT upset those very very few people who find this TOUR offensive & a huge waste of their gossip time. ~ To those of you who have already SIGNED UP for this TOUR, I say WELCOME ABOARD! ~ For those who want to know what this tour is about: http://www.homestead.com/BarronCountyGenealogical/BarronCoGeneNewEnglandTour.html ~ Thanks! Rosemarie Novak President: Barron County, Wi. Genealogical Society P.S. To those VERY FEW who become upset by this posting, please rest assured, the BARRON COUNTY WI. GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY will not send out another of these NOTICES of GENEALOGICAL TOURS.

    1. Newspapers in Waushara County
    2. J. Jankowski
    3. I was wondering if anyone familiar with the area of Aurora Township in Waushara County could tell me what Newspaper was best to look in for news, obits, etc. for that community? I'm interested in the 1870-1920 time frame, in general. I have looked through some Berlin, Green Lake County, papers and know that they have a few tidbits in a "Aurora Community" gossip type column at times, but it doesn't seem to feature obits, etc. from Aurora Township. Would the "Waushara County Argus" be a better place to look? Or is it too far away? How about Omro, Winnebago County? Or, are the Berlin papers the ones I should keep looking in? I guess I'm looking to find which papers are likely to encompass that area. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    1. Sylvanus Twist
    2. Gerald Twist
    3. We know that Sylvanus TWIST was in Winchester, Litchfield, CT in 1830, by census record. He moved to Amsterdam, Montgomery, NY and was there in 1840, by census record. He was in Warwarsing, Ulster, NY in 1850, by census record. He and his family were listed in that census as Sylvenus, age 50, lumberman, born CT; Phebe, age 43, born CT; Edward, age 19, Lumberman, born NY; George, age 17, Lumberman, Born NY; Sylvenus, age 15, Lumberman, born NY; Elmira, age 6, Born NY; Charles S., age 4, born NY; Adilade, age 2, born NY. We know, by land records, that Sylvanus Twist of Ulster County, NY bought 80 acres of public land in Wisconsin on December 15, 1855 through the Stevens Point Land Office. He, of Washara County, WI, per land records, bought another 40 acres on April 2, 1857 also through the Stevens Point Land office. Sylvanus and Phebe, per land records, sold 40 acres on September 2, 1858 to, George W. Twist, his son, for $300. He was in Richfield Town, Adams, WI in 1860, by census record as was his son George Wheeler Twist and his son's wife, Lydia. We would like to know where and when Sylvanus was born, who his parents were, who his siblings were, where and when he died, where he was buried. We believe he was born ca 1799, died Richfield Town, WI after 1860. Can anyone help? Jerry Twist

    1. TARRANT-FEDEREN-SHANNON
    2. Hello to the Great State of Wisconsin, I am searching for any information anyone can provide me with regard to the surname TARRANT and FEDEREN. Both families lived in various parts of the state, but spent quite a bit of time in the Minneapolis area. I am searching for PHILIP FEDEREN (1883) and his wife EDITH FEDEREN (1884) and their two children FABIOLA TARRANT (1897) and CECILE TARRANT (1893). They were last known to be in the Twin Cities area in 1944, but their descendants could be anywhere by now. They were relatives of GEORGE A. SHANNON AND ISABELLA (McDonald) SHANNON of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and their son ROBERT D. SHANNON, who was last known around 1942-44 to be living in Spencer, Iowa. Robert's wife was named JESSE and his children were ANNABELLE and GEORGE, also of Chippewa Falls, WI. Sometime around 1940-45, the family and the germane cousins and step-relatives scattered about the state for an unknown reason, so I'm asking for help from anyone in ANY Wisconsin County. Any information regarding these families or their descendants would be greatly appreciated. Yes, this was posted to every board in Wisconsin because the families scattered and I'm at the point of desperation. It conforms to the guidelines established by RootsWeb, USGenWeb and that awesome upstart ALHN, so it IS NOT considered spam. Take care all. I wish you the best of luck with your own searches. 3. My gr gr grandfather, Samuel S. Willard b.1804 NY, moved to WI (Kenosha Co) in 1842 and to Richford in 1852, residing there until his death, after the 1880 Census. His third child, Emily E. Willard died at the home of her sister, Mrs. M. C. Hollister, in Coloma, 10 Sep 1891 (Obit: Waushara Argus, 18 Sep 1891) and was interred in the family lot in Coloma Station cemetery. I would like to make contact with someone who has access to cemetery records to determine who is buried in the family plot. Additionally, if any subscribers happen to be descendants of Samuel S. Willard, please drop me a line so we can exchange family data. Thank you very much. Cliff Anderson
