I guess I didn't feel once a week email would unset anyone and that it would let the new people to the lists know of the weekly genealogy chat. So this will be the last notice of the weekly chats. I have repeated the instructions below and feel if anyone is interested in the weekly chat can print this out and refer to it for information. Hope to see you there Sunday night and happy hunting! Here are step by step instructions- 1-Go to the site http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm 2-Click on Log on to chat in the upper left area of the screen. This takes you to another screen. 3-At this screen type in your name or a name you are going to use in the chat room in the space next to Nick name. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TYPE ANYTHING ELSE IN ANY OF THE OTHER SPACES. Once you have typed in your name, click on OK, connect in the lower left. 4-You are in the chat room. Type your message in the lower left space where it says Type here and then hit enter. A few helpful hints. There is a list on the right side of the screen of all the people who are in the room. To enlarge the screen for easier reading click on the float button in the upper right hand corner. To enlarge the font, also for easier reading, in the space where you type your message type *chat fontsize 14, this will enlarge the font size. I am sure there is NOT a genealogical society in Waushara County. I visit often, always am working on my family history, and have never seen or heard reference to one. Barbee
Thanks Joan for giving us all that great info. There were a great many of us looking for this resource. Guess if we want a society there - we're just gonna all have to move back there to our roots. <g> Jan Visit Jansdigs at http://www.jansdigs.com Check out Independant Pathways in History at http://www.ipih.org Visit MIGenExchange - We are growing - http://www.genexchange.com/state.cfm?state=mi

We now have resources for Adams, Clark, Portage, Jackson, Juneau, Monroe, Wood, Waushara and some for Trempealau Co too. Permission was recently granted for the Library to buy the Guyant Collection of cemetery and obituary records on microfilm, which includes ALL known Waushara, Portage, and Adams County cemeteries, and portions of Wood and other counties in central WI. The LDS have microfilmed the Guyant Collection, so if you cannot visit the Charles and JoAnn Lester Library at Nekoosa, you can borrow this resource for use at your area's Family History Center. (To find the film numbers, check the LDS FHL Catalog and type in Waushara and Wisconsin in the search boxes & click on cemeteries) Joan M. Hi Jan, Did anyone ever answer you about this? It would be good to know if there is a society. Hi, There's a wonderful map collection in the Library Of Congress map division -- I think in the Jefferson building. LOC is on line. Maybe you can get information about the map division there. I would guess there's a good chance you can find the Waus. cty map and be able to obtain a copy from them. Randy Cole and I both live in Alberta, Canada, but had hoped to meet in Wautoma this past week to talk 19th century Waushara County genealogy. I don't know how to reach him now but maybe someone out there knows him and knows where he is staying. I know he was around Wautoma last Monday but I don't know if he is still in the Wautoma area. Should any of you know him and see him could you please pass this message on to him?. Tell him that I did not reach Coloma until tonight, Saturday, Sept 23. (I had told him I would be here by the 17th) Also tell him to please phone again if he and his father are still in central Wisconsin and then we can pick a time and place for coffee and a chat about the mid-1850s." Thanks. Barbara, temporatily in central Wisconsin.
Please answer on the list. I would also like a copy of the map Janet
I would love to have a copy of the 1876 map of Waushara Co. Does anyone know how I could obtain a copy? Glen Grace Everett, WA
In the southwest corner of the courthouse at Wautoma there's a large photocopy of a Waushara County map, published by Tucker and Skinner in 1876, showing parcels of land throughout the county and the names of land owners. Does anyone know where the original of this map might be found or a reproduction acquired? Thanks! Don Zochert Winfield, IL Great-grandson of Friedrich Wilhelm Zochert, Brushville, 1867
Just a friendly weekly reminder of the Wisconsin Genealogy Chat Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. EST (Adjust for your time zone) We have been having a great group, so stop in and see if you can connect with someone else researching one of your lines. There have been a few questions about the chat so I will post the information here for those of you interested in stopping in and are new to chat rooms. 1- Go to http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm 2- Click on "log on to chat" 3- In the Nick Name space- type the name you want to show in the chat room. Most choose something short and some put the state appreviation after the name, examples DebWI, JeanIL, RedWA, etc. You do not need a password or need to fill out anything else on this page. Once you type in your name click on OK, Connect lower left. 4- You have entered the chat room. You will type your messages in the space in lower left of screen where it says Type here. Type your message and hit enter. A couple helpful hints. To make the screen bigger and without advertisements click on the float button in the upper right hand corner. To enlarge the type - in the message space type *chat fontsize 14, this will enlarge the type font for easier reading. Hope this helps and hope to see some new names in the chat Sunday. REMINDER! Please stop in the Wisconsin Genealogy Chat on Sunday night 9:00 p.m. EST (adjust for your time zone). Bring your "brick walls" and surnames, let's help each other find those lost "cousins". http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm Paula WaupacaCC _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html
I have numerous ancestors from the tri-county area near Plainfield in the 1870's to 1900 era and in some of their histories, there is a reference to the Little Pinery. It seems to be west of Plainfield and maybe in Adams or Portage County. Can anyone tell me exactly where the Little Pinery was? Thanks, John Rodgers
I would like to invite the members of the county mail list to the Wisconsin Genealogy Chat on Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. EST at http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm (Please note-the time is listed as EST-so you will have to adjust for your time zone.)This chat is held every Sunday night, so if you don't connect with a "lost" relative, check back on another Sunday night. Anyone is invited to join in the chat and of course the topic is Wisconsin Genealgogy. This chat is for the sole purpose of assisting each other in finding our lost ancestors in Wisconsin. Stop in and share those great WI sites you have found, family research, help each other "break" through those brick walls. By sharing information maybe we can help each other find that "cousin" we quite can't find. Hoping to see you! Please excuse me if this is a duplicate email. Will Randy's permission I am posting this to the list. Can someone write and give him some help on this??? Not living in WI - my advice is nil. Thanks for helping, Jan Waushara County Coordinator From: Randy & Marlene Cole To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, August 19, 2000 6:29 AM Subject: Visitng Waushara County I am planning a visit to Waushara County during the third week of September, 2000. Our family lived in and around Marion, Waushara County, WI from 1849 to 1864. My g-g-g-grandfather and grandmother are buried in Marion Cemetery. Their names are Ezra and Venlora Cole and it is believed they were among the very early pioneers in the area. Our family has close ties to the John Leach Family that may still, to this day live in Marion. (John died in Feb, 1893 and Venlora, who was his mother by way of a previous marriage to Lemuel Leach, passed away in Oct, 1894). I wish to do some research about my ancestors while visiting Marion and Wautoma. Ezra was a member of the ME Church that I understand merged with the Free Will Baptist Church around 1858 (4 years before Ezra's death). Is there still a Church in the area that might have some records of Ezra's life? Any and all info you can provide me with regard to where I should visit while I am in your area in order that I might make best use of my research time, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Randy Cole, Spruce Grove, Alberta, CANADA
