    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: TURNER, SMITH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TFC.2ACE/628 Message Board Post: I am looking for information and corroboration about Peter Helmer Turner and family who moved to Waukesha from NY and lived there in 1840-42. (Lydia's father was Chauncey Smith) Then they moved to Jefferson Co. 1842-1859, first in Ellisburg and then near Palmyra. Peter's wife Lydia died in Palmyra. >From Peter's obituary (and I have no corroborating materials): In 1849, Peter was elected a member of the first constitutional convention. He also held a variety of local offices in Palmyra (school director, postmaster, court commissioner, county supervisor, etc.) In 1859 he moved to Madison and managed a foundry and machine works that he bought. In 1860 he was elected alderman from the first ward and the next year president of the council. In 1871, he went as a pioneer to the Dakota Territory. Thanks for any help or information. Joanne Turner
