    3. Kevin-Don't worry about it. There are some neurotic list owners out there who want to control everything. I recently ran into one elsewhere myself. Best wishes and thanks for letting us know of your offer. --Pam Berger Kevin Frye wrote: > Thanks for the kind words Frank but even with my oppology listed,,,I still > get slammed for offering my SPAM.....Just got slammed by a webowner of > another Wisconsin county site for making my FREE 1 time offer...without > asking permission to may my offer... and that she instantly unsubscribed > me,,,,,LOL Go figgure....I thought these sites were for people helping > people....If not...I wonder what those people do in Grant... > > Have a great evening. > > Kevin > > -

    1. [WIWAUKES] Responsible postings

    3. It is the responsibility of the list owner to maintain a friendly and pleasant environment for all users of the list. When an individual posts to the list, it is the responsibility of that list admin to determine if the guidelines have been met. If not, the list admin has every right to take action. I don't think a list admin should be called neurotic for following the guidelines that are set out by rootsweb. If you saw even one eighth of the stuff that is attempted to be posted to the list you would realize that it sometimes difficult to distinguish between bad spam and good spam. You would also be very happy that we are there filtering the garbage for you. When a list admin sees that an individual is posting across several county lists, it raises a flag to say hey....what is this person up to? At that point a decision needs to be made to ban or not ban. As a poster, you should not decrease the enjoyment of others. When in doubt, instead of just posting, take the time to inform the admin of what your intentions are. 9 times out of 10, the admin will take the time to post the item for you or give you the go ahead to post. Probably even add your information to their website (if they have one; most do) There is something to be said for common courtesy as well. The lists are here for the exchange of information, however the information should not be posted in such a way as to take away from the enjoyment of others. Ellen- Waukesha County List Administrator

    3. Ellen, I was not referring to you or this list even obliquely and neither was the person I was responding to, so please do not take offense. I am sure you are doing an excellent job for the Waukesha County list. There are some bad administrators out there, though, and it is difficult to deal with them. Some people cannot handle even this level of power over others. I had a recent negative experience with a list administrator who must have missed a calling as puppeteer--she demanded a tightly controlled list environment in the extreme, and would brook no discussion or suggestions whatsoever, no matter how politely stated.. It really spoiled my use and enjoyment of that list. Of course any list needs sensible guidelines. No one would want an unpleasant environment or a mailbox full of unsolicited commercial email. The person I was responding to was primarily offering a free service, however, so I was surprised that he was being given a hard time anywhere. I would be very reluctant to think of banning anyone unless there were some flagrant abuse or significant continuing difficulty. Let's move on. ---Pam "Ellen (Genealogy)" wrote: > It is the responsibility of the list owner to maintain a friendly and pleasant environment for all users of the list. > > When an individual posts to the list, it is the responsibility of that list admin to determine if the guidelines have been met.
