    3. Re: George MICHELS: I have been at a dead end with my George MICHELS since about 1980... I have checked on George Michels and found that he first purchased land in the Town of Belgium, which is about 8 miles north of Port Washington. He got the land through a land patent from the United States Bureau of Land Division. He later sold the land and purchased land in the Thiensville area. Next he bought land in what became West Granville (near Timmerman Field) Milwaukee County..this eventually went to his daughter/son-in-law, Elizabeth MICHELS and Henry JONEN. I believe he is the George MICHELS who drown in the Rock River in Jefferson County on November 18, 1860. His body "was returned to relatives in Jefferson". He is not buried in any cemeteries in Jefferson. I found an obituary in the Waukesha Freeman for a George MICHELS, Jr. ( I think it was 1909?) anyway, it said that George MICHELS. Jr., son of George MICHELS died of pneumonia and was buried in Busse Cemetery (Pilgrim's Rest), in Pewaukee. I walked the whole cemetery but did not find him. I asked the sextant, but he said that records of the old burial plots were not kept.. HAS ANYONE ENCOUNTERED GEORGE MICHELS IN THEIR RESEARCH IN WAUKESHA COUNTY? His daughters married at either St. Martins Catholic Church or St. Anthony's Catholic Church--he is not buried at either of those cemeteries, either. I have tried the newspapers in gthe Watertown and Jefferson area--there is one, the WELTBURGER (on microfilm at the Watertown Public Library), which is written in German script--it may have something in it, but I cannot read German Any info/suggestions appreciated, Thank you, Susan apetta@netwurx.net
