I'd like to hear from anyone who descends from the John Chambers Cumming family or has knowledge of them: John Chambers Cumming, born 1802, County Down, Ireland and died Dec. 14, 1886 Eagle Twp, Waukesha Co, WI. He md Eunice GRAHM. This family came to NY City in 1802. John and his two brothers, Hance and Thomas (perhaps others) went to present-day Brant Co, Ontario 1822-30. John Chambers and Hance came to Waukesha Co, WI about 1845, living in the Eagle/Ottawa township area. Hance moved in 1852 to Fayette Co, IA. John remained in Waukesha Co. Below is a list of his known children: Sarah born 1831, who md Josiah ELTING Matilda S. born 1834 who md. Thomas 'Tucker' LEAN Thomas born 1840, who md Eliz. VALIEN and moved to Fayette Co, IA John Graham Dawson born 1841 who md Ellen APLIN Margaret born abt 1843 who md John KEUPER Ann Eve born 1846 who md George E. APLIN Hance/Horace Boggs born 1848 who md Mary Ellen SWAN Eliza Jane born 1850 who md B. MILLER Eunice born 1845-1857 - Mary born 1856 and died at age 10. I would like to know more about the below individuals who may or may not be part of the above family, which I've come across in my Waukesha County research: Stephen Cummings is listed in the 1846 Wisconsin census of Waukesha County, at Prairieville town (10 family members, 3 males, 7 females). Geore Cummings-found in Waukesha County state census of 1865, in Ottowa Township (5 in the family: 4 males, 1 female--two of which were foreign born). Ottowa is where the John Chambers Cumming family lived. Eliza CHAPIN md (possibly 1827 and/after) husband, __?___ Cummings; they were of Waukesha Co. Eliza was born in 1807 and died in 1884 and is buried in the same cemetery where the John Chambers Cumming family is buried (Jericho cemetery) There was another Cumming family in early Waukesha County, the name being spelled CUMMINGS, with the 's' at the end, though I allow for various spellings when I research. I find a Lucy A/M Cummings, born 1826 Windsor Co, VT who died 1895 Eagle Twp, Waukesha Co, VT. She was the daughter of Jacob A. Cummings who was born 1800 at Andover, Windosr Co, VT and md Lydia Dodge. Lucy md Frederic A. Sprague. The above Jacob was son of Ebenezer and Hannah (Washer) Cummings--Ebenezer was born 1761 at Hollis, NH. This 'Ebenezer' line goes back to early Massachusettes and I believe is not related to my line, though they did not live far apart in Waukesha County. A Mrs. Edward CHAPIN abstracted some naturalization records of New York City in 1800-1810 directly concerning my CUMMING family; I don't know if Mrs. Chapin was a genealogy volunteer who abstracted ALL NY City naturalization records or whether she was an individual researcher of the Chapin/Cumming family, but it is the 2nd time I encountered the name 'Chapin' while researching my Cumming family, so there is a chance the CHAPIN family is concerrned with my Cumming line.
