Hello! I am researching the Noble family of Waukesha. James Beecher Noble was in Waukesha County near Brookfield by 1854. He moved to the area from an unknown location in New York State, the families origins reputedly being in Scotland. James' wife Jane Higgins died in NY and left him with three boys, Frank, Henry and Thomas Noble. James and the boys move to Waukesha along with his wife's sister and brother, Mahala and Almon Higgins. James marries Mahala in Janesville. Family lore is that the boys did not like their stepmother and the oldest two, Frank and Henry ran away. Thomas stayed in Waukesha, grew up and married Ida Ulricha Hartwig (of Germany) and they eventually moved on to Norfolk, VA. Questions: What happened to Frank and Henry Noble? What happened to Almon Higgins? There seem to be a ton of people from Scotland who migrated to New York State and thence to Wisconsin in the 1850s? What was the attraction? Looking forward to sharing information with the list. Nancy Noble Seattle Washington
