If I could append just a bit to my previous message, I wanted to clarify that it was not Mrs. Tallmadge (1877-1968) who started the historical society or museum, only that she was a significant figure in making it what it became and that she was active for quite some time. (She assisted my grandmother with genealogical information in the 1950s--I have copies of several letters with Mrs. T's characteristic side notes adding to or clarifying her so-so typing.) I believe historian J. H. A. Lacher came before her and got things rolling for the museum, and no doubt there were other unsung members who contributed in various ways. I don't have command of all the details of of the history of the historical society anymore, but I did want to mention Mrs. T's work for those who wouldn't otherwise know who she was. -- Pam Berger Pam wrote: > Edith Tallmadge was the first Waukesha County historian, which may not have been an > official post at that time.
