If I could append just a bit to my previous message, I wanted to clarify that it was not Mrs. Tallmadge (1877-1968) who started the historical society or museum, only that she was a significant figure in making it what it became and that she was active for quite some time. (She assisted my grandmother with genealogical information in the 1950s--I have copies of several letters with Mrs. T's characteristic side notes adding to or clarifying her so-so typing.) I believe historian J. H. A. Lacher came before her and got things rolling for the museum, and no doubt there were other unsung members who contributed in various ways.
