FOR DOUG: The History of Waukesha County (Western Historical Association, publ.; Chicago, Illinois, 1880."History of Towns", p. 729-94.) doesn't mention early Catholic churches in either Delafield or Summit townships. Do you have a specific location (i.e. Post Office, City, Village, etc.) and/or time period in mind? Catholic parishes in townships near to Delafield and Summit townships: Genesee: St. Paul's, ca. 1860s-70s Merton: St. John's ca. 1840s Oconomowoc: St. Catherine's (Monterey), ca. 1840s; St. Jerome's (O'woc), ca. 1840s Pewaukee: St. Mary's, ca. 1868 Waukesha: St. Joseph's, ca. 1844 Additional info available at: Waukesha County Churches: http://members.aol.com/lakehist/church.htm Waukesha County Township Locations: http://members.aol.com/lakehist/locations.htm - Sue Ellen
The answer to questions about Catholic congregations would be to call the historian of the relevant diocese. I would start with the Milwaukee diocese or archdiocese, whichever it is, and they will tell you what to do next. Most dioceses have an archive and some even have an historian who can help you.
