Please note that I found my father's discharge summary at the Waukesha County Museum and Research Center, filed in a file cabinet. He was in the Army Air Corps during WWII. If your family member served during WWII, you may (as I did ) naively assume that the federal government has maintained service records -- however, a fire destroyed most of those records. The Waukesha resource allowed me to find the unit with which my father went to Saipan at the end of the war and to better understand his military experiences.
