    3. Where would I look to find naturalization papers? I'm getting a run around. First called Waukesha County Museum where they directed me to the Register of deeds and vise versa. Also is there a way to find these records with a surname index, I don't know date or year, just sometime after 1937, & according to my mother she remembers seeing her uncle taking the Oath at her school. appreciate any input and help, Thanks! These are court records--thus should *not* be in a register of deeds office (not to say that there are no court records in a register of deeds office, but these records should not be there). According to http://www.uwm.edu/Library/arch/Genie/infopages/otherrep.htm (from the UW-Milwaukee) the Waukesha County Historical Society (Museum Research Center) has naturalization records for Waukesha County (perhaps only copies). The originals may be held by the Wisconsin Historical Society, either in Madison (seems unlikely) or the ARC in Milwaukee. I would imagine that the County Court have shipped all of its naturalization papers to some archive facility. >Also is there a way to find these records with a surname index, I don't know date or year, just sometime after 1937, & according to my mother she remembers seeing her uncle taking the Oath at her school. There is a SOUNDEX index covering the county and federal district courts of southeastern Wisconsin at the Great Lakes Region of NARA, in Chicago. Chances are quite good that this person would be included in that index. If you work at it, you can also get a copy of any post-1906 naturalization record from the INS. Rollie
