1. [WIWAUKES] Our Summer Project!
2. Hello; If you'd like to see what Jim & I have been doing with our summer this year, please see the website below! :) Hunter Cemetery is an 1840's pioneer cemetery in Bureau County, IL where Jim & I located the gravesite of my 2xgreat grandparents, Nehemiah & Phebe Sampson Parris DeMaranville, in May of this year. The condition of Hunter Cemetery is deplorable, and is not, believe me, the only pioneer cemetery in this country, that has been neglected for decades. It just happens to be very near and dear to our hearts, because of the numerous members of my family buried here. Hunter Cemetery is also in this condition because a farmer, who owned the land in the 1950's & 60's, tried to raze the stones and bury them so that he could plow the ground for farmland. Fortunately, the neighbors in the surrounding area heard about this and stopped him; or this Pioneer Cemetery would be lost forever, just like the fate of so many others in this country. Jim & I have worked several weekends this summer trying to c lear the overgrowth of weeds and dead & fallen trees from Hunter Cemetery, so that eventually, it may be restored to a condition of respectability; not to mention the historic value of a cemetery such as this. Thus far, we have succeeded in clearing about 1/3 of the one-half plus acre of ground; and are very pleased with our results. One Sunday, while working at Hunter Cemetery, we were visitied by our new friends David & Larry Zeller of Zeller Tombstone Repair of Leaf River, Ogle, IL. When we came home yesterday from a weekend of wilderness camping with our son Rob & some of his friends; I found this link in an email message from David. This is not our website, but was place here by our friends, David & Larry Zeller of Leaf River, Ogle, IL. Thank you David! The site is best viewed on Netscape or Internet Explorer, and takes a long time to load. Please be patient. Hunter Cemetery Restoration Project http://www.homestead.com/zellerstombstone/HunterCemetery.html Jim & Mikki Judge P. 2. Jan Where would I find a marriage record of someone before a church records started? I am looking for the records of Henrici (Henry) Naber and Elizabeth Bungler some time around or before 1855 that is when the first child was born--and I would like to know why her name is Bungler on the baptismal records when she was Elizabeth Kortendick on her Death records. Says daughter of Joseph Kortendick. And the lived in the Waterford area,

2. Hi Karen; Boy! Did you open a door! How generous of you to offer to do this; thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart. The surnames I would be looking for information on are Dickson/Dixon, Alexander & wife Margaret; and Gale, John & wife Jane. I would be very interested in locating obituaries, and the location of the gravestones, for John and Jane Gale, in Eagle, Waukesha, WI. John d. in Monroe County, but is buried in Eagle with his wife. Jane d. in Waukesha County prior to ca.1875. John & Jane had a daughter, Mary Ann b1855 in Waukesha County after their arrival in America. MaryAnn m. ca 1875 George Marcum, I believe in Waukesha County. You might also find information on a Charles Gale, and a Samuel Gale from this same area, whom I believe might be sons of John & Jane or brothers to John. I know nothing about these 2 men, other than Charles is listed on a census record with them, and I have a funeral card for a Samuel Gale, that came to me within the Gale family photo album. John, Jane, and at least one child, Edward John, came to America ca. 1854, from England, and settled in Eagle I don't know what you might find on my Dickson/Dixon family; but they too immigrated to this area in the mid to late 1850's, they from Scotland. Their daughter, Margaret Hunter Dickson/Dixon is my great grandmother, and was m. to Edward John Gale, my great grandfather, s/o John & Jane above, in Palmyra, WI 4 July 1872. Sometime after this, Edward John and Margaret removed to Kendall, Monroe, WI, as this is where their children were born. Thanks again for your generous offer. I have a copy of the History of Waukesha from the library (I checked one of the copies out). The Menomonee Falls library has cemetery listings for all the cemeteries (Sunnyside,Emmanual,Union,St. Anthonys, St. James, St. Pauls, etc) in the area as well as census info for 1850,55,60,65,70. The MF News is on microfiche back to the early 1900's and is indexed up until the 1930's or so. The library also has a book w/ index called "Memoirs of Waukesha County" and the book/index "Southeastern Wisconsin; Old Milwaukee County" - 4 volume book set (Waukesha County used to be part of Milwaukee County). I can also look up the 1909-1910 Waukesha Directory if anyone needs some addresses. There is also a book on the History of Lannon, Jistory of Sussex and various other history books of Menomonee Falls. Email me if you want anything looked up in this area. Karen >>

2. I have a photo I took during one of our days working on our cemetery restoration project in IL. On this tombstone, the letters CCA are in front of the man's name. This person was b. ca 1792, and died in 1859; so he would have been too young for the Rev. War, and died before the Civil War. Anyone have any ideas what the CCA stands for? Is this a military abbreviation, or some type of religious or fraternal status? I really appreciate your help. Thank you. Mikki Judge Buffalo, IA

2. Rosemarie; I want to DITTO everything that has been said here today. When I read the first post announcing your tour, I was very envious of everyone who would be going on this trip.......one I have dreamed of. Like others said today, please do not let one rotten apple spoil the bunch......we want to hear about these types of GENEALOGY TOURS; and when you get back, those of us who weren't able to go will want to hear all about it. Here's a great GENEALOGY request......on the way home from the tour, have everyone write a short synopsis of their adventure. What they saw, what they found, how it felt to walk on those hallowed grounds of our ancestors; and then post them all to this mail list! I know I would enjoy hearing from everyone aboard. Thank you Rosemarie for the service you provide the GENEALOGY community. Mikki Judge Buffalo, IA << --------------------
