Welcome aboard Ellen, I know you will enjoy all of this. I wish I could be there & help also but I am way out here in nevada. I do have a close cousin nearby in Glendale. I have tried to get her interested in doing some research & she has walked to the library nearby her a couple times for me, but she isn't that sure about all the how's. She enjoys hearing me tell her what I have & what I have learned. Maybe one of these days I will be able to show her what I have acheived & then she may get a little more interested. I also have a cousin of my mother in Milwaukee - her name is Ruby Wassberg, she is about 80, but her daughter has written to my mother 83 in Arizona asking about ancestors. I just wish they would share there info. Well good luck & I hope you have as much fun as i think you will. Sorry, too early, I meant to say William Ziemer lived on Burleigh Road in BROOKFIELD, WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wisconsin in 1900.
Sorry, to early, I meant to say William Ziemer lived on Burleigh Road in BROOKFIELD, WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wisconsin in 1900.
I am looking for information about Wilhelm Ziemer, born January 1666 and probably emigrated to the US in 1878. In 1900 Wilhelm was single and lived on the Schmidt farm on Burleigh Road in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Wilhelm or William Ziemer was probably born in Pomerania, perhaps near Mersin. Penny Ziemer Ford
Does anyone know anything about the surname Allagad ? This was my g grandmother's maiden name. I can't seem to find anything. This spelling was taken off of my grandmother's orig. SS application. Thanks, Barbara Clark
I have posted a portion of the 1914 Brookfield plat map (an eastern and central portion of the "city") on our family website. This is the first link right now. On the map, you'll see the places where several of my family members owned farms in the early 1900's. I also have included a photo I took in Hannover last year, the palace of the king my great great grandfather Sommer renounced after he became a Waukesha County farmer. I would like to thank everyone involved in the making of this site. It is wonderful. I love looking at everything. You guys are doing a great job. Thanks also for the updates... Keep up the good work. Mary
Seeing Pat Howard as a contributor, I am wondering if she has any information about Nelson and Harriet Pratt Howard from the Waukesha area. They had several children, Silas, Spencer, Albert, E......, and my g grandfather James Howard who emigrated to northern Michigan I know Silas married Mary Jane and had 3 sons, Charles, Nelson and Spencer. Spencer married Carolyn Vernon. Silas and Mary Jane and Spencer and Carolyn plus Nelson and Harriet are buried in the Prairie Home Cemetery. I have been unable to connect with any living relatives. Thanks to anyone who has info. Lorrie Howard Oltman
After a week of meetings and a weekend to my own genealogy - I'm back with some more goodies for the site: Pat Howard has been kind enough to send us a couple pages of census. Extracts from 1850 Town of Lisbon and 1850 Town of Delafield. I also took all the census extracts and built a new page to link from. Now I think I need to go back and redo the old pages. Geez - was I that bad back then? :-( Updates have been made to the births page. Joan Borman sent us a page from the 1870 Waukesha First Baptist Church Membership. So check that one out too. Ellen has been working on those Bios from the History of Waukesha County. Awesome job - but this gal is the greatest. So check that page out too, its being constantly updated! Thanks gals you do wonderful work and we all appreciate it. Now stop in and take a look and I'll go back to doing more. Think the Waukesha County Poor Farm is next up from Bonnie Fritz. So stay tuned. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaukes/indice.html Jan Waukesha County Coordinator

I'm not certain how extensive a cleaning up you are contemplating, but we have never had any problem with anyone in other cemeteries. We typically have always taken shears to edge around the gravestones of our family members. As long as you were not removing shrubbery, I would imagine the cemetery authority would appreciate any and all volunteer labor. Good luck, Denice Lucas
Hi - I hope there is someone on the list who can give me information. The subject cemetery is in New Berlin. After much effort, I convinced some of my local relatives to go look at the cemetery and to take pictures of the tombstones of our ancestors. I live in Dallas, TX so cannot just hop in the car and go look for myself. I got the developed pictures today. Although some of the cemetery looks in well-groomed condition, one older area which houses some of my ancestors is overgrown with brush and in sad need of sprucing up. Is it permissible for a person to go to the plots for the purpose of removing the brush and cleaning it up? I certainly have no desire to be treated as though I am a trespasser or break some local ordnance. As I mentioned, I live over 1000 miles away, but if I could do this for my g-g-g-grandparents I would gladly make plans to do this project as my vacation. If there is no local authority who will prevent me from doing such a thing, is there any advice any of you can give me about how to proceed? Do permissions need to be obtained? What tools/equipment would be recommended as necessary for a thorough clean-up? Any and all thoughts, advice, wisdom, or experience will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Gena Schmear formerly of New Berlin
Our family suffered the same fate at the old Oak Hill Cemetery in Old Butler (Wauwatosa). The Wisconsin Old Cemetery Society helped clean it up a number of years ago, though our family, at the rear, does not "enjoy" the full benefit of the new greening and cleaning efforts. You can register as a person interested in the well-being of the cemetery by calling the State Historical Society. Here is some info. from their website. >>Are cemeteries and burials given special protection? Under Wisconsin law, Native American burial mounds, unmarked burials, and all marked and unmarked cemeteries are protected from intentional disturbance. If anyone suspects that a Native American burial mound or an unmarked or marked burial is present in an area, the Burial Sites Preservation Office should be notified. If you have any questions concerning the law, please contact the Coordinator of the Burial Sites Preservation Program Dr. Leslie Eisenberg at 1-800-342-7834 or 608-264-6503.>> http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/histbuild/smartgrowth/asi.htm Do call her -- perhaps she can put you in touch with the old cemetery society and can send out the forms to register in case any further insults may befall the family burial ground. I am looking for the families of Hans Jacob Hansen and Rasmine Jacobsen Hansen (family changed sp to Hanson). Parents and 6 children immigrated about 1871 from Lolland and / or Langeland,Denmark. Children were Jacob, Gustave, Hansine, Emma F, Mathilde, and Julius. My g grandfather married Emma F. Great grandfather was Frank Christian Peterson ( immigrated about 1879 from Lolland,Denmark. Emma Hanson was his second wife, married abot 1894. His first wife is still unknown to me. I don't have enough info to ask WI state yet. They had 3 children between the time he got to Wisconsin and 1887. He was a blacksmith by trade. About 1895, they moved to New Mexico. My father knew Ethwell (Eddy ) Hanson ,songwriter, and son of Gustave. Eddy was Emma's nephew. He lived for some years in Waupaca. We also knew Zeller girls. If you know this family, please tell them to contact me. Eddy Hanson wrote that most of family had stayed in WI. I am new to your list. Thanks Barbara Clark
