    3. Nan, This looks like it will be just great! I am really excited about the 1890 info -- what a great asset to this internet community. I was not, however, able to get the links from the Brookfield to open -- just got a blank page. Is this a jpg you forgot to load, or perhaps had a space in the file name, etc? Thanks for all your hard work. 1. [WIWAUKES] Carl Hinz of Pewaukee
    2. Penny Ford
    3. I have discovered that my great great grandfather's brother, Carl Fred. Hinz, born 1817, emigrated from Pomerania the same year as my Johann Ferdinand Hintz, 1868, and that the two settled not to far apart -- Johann was in Wauwatosa and Carl lived in Pewaukee, according to the 1900 Waukesha County census. Carl's wife was named Pauline. The 1900 census does not fill out any children for them -- the number of children blanks are left blank, not even a zero, for her. They were in their 80's at this time, though, and I am thinking it is possible that they had children now adults not listed through the negligence of the census worker. Anyone related to this family, out there? Thanks. Penny Ziemer Ford Denver

    2. Lorrie Schneck
    3. Hello Ellen (and list), My ggrandfather was living with his grandfather (my ggggrandfather) John GILMORE in 1880. John GILMORE was living and farming on the land directly behind the Lisbon Central Union Cemetery. My ggrandfather, James Samuel PIERCE would have been 8 years old at the time. Other family members of mine living in the Town of Lisbon in 1880 and attending school were Margaret GOWANS and Helen GOWANS (my ggrandmother). They were the natural and adopted daughters respectively of James and Jane GOWANS. I am unsure exactly where they lived in the Town of Lisbon. I am looking for any and all information related to the GILMORE, GOWANS, CHALMERS, FOY, PIERCE, and ROBINSON families of the Town of Lisbon. Some background information: John GILMORE, his wife Ann CHALMERS GILMORE, and Thomas CHALMERS were 3 of the founding members of the Lisbon United Presbyterian Church in 1847. All of the previously named families were members of this church at one time. The CHALMERS family lived on the land that included what is known today as Ausblick Ski Hill. Their land was was next to the GILMORE land. Margaret GOWANS (mentioned earlier) married Dr. Craig J. FOY. Helen GOWANS (mentioned earlier) married James Samuel PIERCE. James Samuel PIERCE's mother was Ann GILMORE (eldest daughter of John and Ann GILMORE). Ann GILMORE married a PIERCE, but I am unsure of his first name, it may also be James. Agnes GILMORE (youngest daughter of John and Ann GILMORE) married William Philip GOWANS. William Philip GOWANS worked for William SMALL (another of the founding members of the Lisbon Presbyterian Church) on his farm in 1880. In 1890 William GOWANS was working as a helper at WI Central shops in Pewaukee. ( I am unsure of what this means exactly). Ann ROBINSON was a cousin of James GOWANS, a woman with special needs, that was taken care of by the GILMORE, CHALMERS, and GOWANS families. If you can help me in any way, please contact me at LLESchneck@charter.net . Thank you so very much!!!! Lorrie P.S. Sorry Ellen, this is a little more information than you requested <Smile>, but while I was typing anyway, I thought I may as well keep going. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gene Alogist <jeanealogist@hotmail.com> To: <WIWAUKES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 28, 2001 8:25 PM Subject: Re: [WIWAUKES] School > Do you know where in the town of Lisbon he lived? > Ellen- > > > > >Hello,Can anyone tell me what school my ggrandfather might have attended in 1880. > > He was living in the Town of Lisbon. > >Is there any way to obtain school > >records from that time period? > >Thank you for any assistance. > >Lorrie > > > > > >==== WIWAUKES Mailing List ==== > >The Waukesha County Mailing List is maintained by Jan Cortez, > >Waukesha County, WIGenWeb Coordinator. 3. Nan, Thank you - this is the right family - at least Springsted is. If SKS could check the 1860 or 1880 census index for Vernon Twp. it would be most appreciated. Vernon Twp David Lawrence may be an elder brother (or nephew) of Sabra Lawrence Springsted. Sabra's uncle David Lawrence b 1800 NY was in WI 1850. His? son? Jay is the only child we know of. Jay was with David Lawrence in 1850. Am just realizing Maria Lawrence, w o G. B. Bannister could be Sabra's sister. Does anyone have information on the Bannisters? First called Waukesha County Museum where they directed me to the Register of deeds and vise versa.... These are court records--thus should *not* be in a register of deeds office (not to say that there are no court records in a register of deeds office, but these records should not be there). According to http://www.uwm.edu/Library/arch/Genie/infopages/otherrep.htm (from the UW-Milwaukee) the Waukesha County Historical Society (Museum Research Center) has naturalization records for Waukesha County (perhaps only copies). The originals may be held by the Wisconsin Historical Society, either in Madison (seems unlikely) or the ARC in Milwaukee. I would imagine that the County Court have shipped all of its naturalization papers to some archive facility. >Also is there a way to find these records with a surname index, I don't know date or year, just sometime after 1937, & according to my mother she remembers seeing her uncle taking the Oath at her school. There is a SOUNDEX index covering the county and federal district courts of southeastern Wisconsin at the Great Lakes Region of NARA, in Chicago. Chances are quite good that this person would be included in that index. If you work at it, you can also get a copy of any post-1906 naturalization record from the INS. Rollie
