    1. RE: [WIWAUKES] Morgan James
    2. Robin Haynes
    3. Leslie, I have found the grave of Morgan James, died 27-Jun-1869, at age 80 years. It is located in the SW corner of the Jerusalem Cemetery in Wales, WI, in the original section of the cemetery, not far from both the Mausoleum and the historical marker. There is only a marker for Morgan. There are no other JAMES markers adjacent to his grave, however, there are many other JAMES markers in the cemetery. I will send you photos of the marker via e-mail. Also, I have contacted the historian for the Village of Wales and asked her to see what she can find on Morgan and related families. Morgan's wife was named Ann b. 1802 d. 1870-1880. I hope the tombstone(s) offers some closer dates. Thanks for your help. Leslie -----Original Message----- From: Robin Haynes [mailto:rchaynes@execpc.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2001 4:35 PM To: WIWAUKES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [WIWAUKES] Morgan James Leslie, I live in Wales, Waukesha, WI, very near to Jerusalem Cemetery and will be happy to get information from the grave stone(s). David, do you have cemetery lot information for Morgan James? I happen to have a copy the certified survey and lot map, but it does not show a list of the owners. Robin Haynes Wales, WI -----Original Message----- From: N295VV@aol.com [mailto:N295VV@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 3:46 PM To: WIWAUKES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WIWAUKES] Morgan James Leslie, Re: Morgan James I have him listed in my work, "Welsh Pioneers of Waukesha County". I believe the Jerusalem Cemetery records have him as dying in 1869 on 27 June, and that is the correct date. Did the Historical Soc Museum have his Declaration to become a citizen? They have the originals to hundreds of Welsh pioneers who came in the 1840's. The other Morgan James was married to Ellen Rees, and was born much later. I have information on some 3000 Welsh (including several generations in lots of instances) from Waukesha Co. If you come up with any names, I will be glad to research my files. I had most of the information mentioned in your email, and I do not have any additional information at this time. I would be happy to receive your family file on subsequent generations and your permission to add it to my files. I will ultimately donate my work to the Village of Wales and the Wauk. Hist Soc and Museum. Printed, it runs 154 pages. Do you have any information on the farm, village, or area in Wales that Morgan came from? Lots of people who came in the 1840's came from an area in central Cardiganshire just north of Tregaron, surrounding the Cors Goch Bog. I have found several of the farms, and the buildings are still there. In regard to your question about the spouses of Kate and Mary James, I can almost guarantee you that they married Welsh husbands. There was absolutely no intermarriage with the Germans, Russians, and other ethnic groups that were in the area. I'd like to learn more about this -- when, how, by whom, etc.... I would expect that the quarantining of a dairy herd would almost automatically make the local newspapers (such as the Freeman). You might also consider asking the Waukesha County Historical Society. My farming days are far, far behind me, but I suspect that bovine brucellosis would have been more likely than bovine tuberculosis to cause an economic disaster. The similarity of the two words may lead to confusion between the two diseases among laymen. My recollection is that a brucellosis outbreak would take out a whole herd, while a tuberculosis outbreak usually took out only the infected individuals. Rollie

Kay R., one of our new volunteer typists, found a list of marriages from the Old German Reformed Church in New Berlin, Waukesha Co. She transcribed them and sent them to me. Thank you Kay! The researchers appreciate your hard work. Since they are new entries, I have listed the surnames added at the end of this email. The new family section is online! TaDa!! I hope the new format makes it easier for you to find your people. I took the marriages Jan had on her Wisconsin Marriages pages, and merged them with the births page we had, and with the St. Alban's Marriage listing and the Grace Episcapalian Baptisms. I merged Kay's new stuff with that as well. I will eventually be merging the biosketches with this section to make one combined list. I went to the Waukesha Library yesterday and found a bunch of new stuff. Lots of goodies for you. I found a newspaper article on the Benecke Family from Brookfield. It describes the burial ground located in that township. Ernst Benecke, was the son of a nobleman in Germany. It was an interesting find. I summarized the article and put it on the cemetery page. You can find it by going to the Benecke Cemetery (cem #1) or clicking on the link from the surname in the new Marriage/Family Section. The URL for the Waukesha page is: www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaukes/indice.html This should keep you busy until next year. <GRIN> I have guests coming tomorrow so doubt I will have much time to transcribe. 2. Ellen-
    3. Greetings All, I hope everyone is having a joyous Holiday Season! My latest project has been adding biosketches to the Waukesha GenWeb Site. I completed the town of Genesee today and Muskego yesterday. I still have quite a few to do, but I am getting there. You can see what is already completed at www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaukes/biosketches.html We have a new helper on the site, Kay R. has graciously offered to help type items for the site. Thank you Kay for volunteering. We all look forward to the items you help add to the site. I don't know how much I will be able to add in the next few days. My parents will be coming in for the holiday and I will be spending as much time as I can with the family. Be sure to check the what's new page often. I may not always have time to post to the list, but I do add the new stuff I do to the what's new page as I upload. I wish you all a safe and healthy holiday. Ellen-

I have decided to give the site up - knowing that it is in excellent and very capable hands. Ellen lives in the county and I know she will be able to provide you with the information that you would like and deserve to have online. Don't think she is able to do personal research - but believe me she has loads of info to get online for you. Don't hesitate to contact her if you can help type. With that I will bid you all a fond farewell. You're a great group of people!! Wishing you Happy Holidays and a healthy, safe and prosperous New Year! Jan Cortez

    3. Thank you Bob. I want to thank Jan Cortez for the wonderful gift she has given me. After I don't know how many years of hard work, Jan is relinquishing her title as Coordinator, then Co-coordinator of this Waukesha GenWeb site. It is not quite official yet, but I will now be doing the Waukesha site for you. Thank you Jan for all the work you have done on this site. I hope you all wish Jan a fond farewell, I know she will always be here in spirit as she works on her other counties. Jan has no kin here, but became attached to all of you find folks. I hope I am able to fill her shoes and help all of you wonderful county researchers as well as Jan has helped you. I will do my best to do the county well. I wish you all Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year. Ellen- > >And thanks for all you have done in the past also. 3. Leslie, I am not related, but grew up in Palmyra...I was just trying to let you know that there were Carlin's in this area in case you had lost them--or it would be a new link for you...I'm familiar with the names because I grew up here--but not because I was related...was just trying to help...
