    3. Ellen, I was not referring to you or this list even obliquely and neither was the person I was responding to, so please do not take offense. I am sure you are doing an excellent job for the Waukesha County list. There are some bad administrators out there, though, and it is difficult to deal with them. Some people cannot handle even this level of power over others. I had a recent negative experience with a list administrator who must have missed a calling as puppeteer--she demanded a tightly controlled list environment in the extreme, and would brook no discussion or suggestions whatsoever, no matter how politely stated.. It really spoiled my use and enjoyment of that list. Of course any list needs sensible guidelines. No one would want an unpleasant environment or a mailbox full of unsolicited commercial email. The person I was responding to was primarily offering a free service, however, so I was surprised that he was being given a hard time anywhere. I would be very reluctant to think of banning anyone unless there were some flagrant abuse or significant continuing difficulty. Let's move on. ---Pam "Ellen (Genealogy)" wrote: > It is the responsibility of the list owner to maintain a friendly and pleasant environment for all users of the list. > > When an individual posts to the list, it is the responsibility of that list admin to determine if the guidelines have been met. 3. Vinita, Early Waukesha county marriage records are difficult to find. There are no indexes available which makes a search very difficult. You may want to try contacting churches. Richard as you know was baptized in St. Joseph's. you may want to start there Richard's children were baptized at St. Alban's. You could also check there. 1. [WIWAUKES] Russell, Mahoney, Nicholson in Waukesha Co in late 1800's
    2. I am looking for info on any of these persons: According to the 1900 census record for Patrick Russell, believed to be the brother of Richard, he emmigrated to the United States in 1855 from Ireland and was naturalized. After he came to the United States about 1860, Patrick married Anne Nicholson who had emmigrated two years earlier than he had in 1853. This researcher believes that Richard also came to the United States in 1855 and was naturalized and married Alice Mahoney after arriving in the United States. The ages of these brothers is in question. There seems to be more than a ten year difference in the census records and their death certificates, making it hard to determine their date of birth. 1860 Census for Waukesha County Wisconsin, Waukesha Village, page 215, Household 36: Richard Russell 30 day laborer born in Ireland, Alice 23 born in Ireland, and Jeremiah 11/12 born in Wisconsin. (Most of the heads of household in their neighborhood were born in Ireland. Both of their closest neighbors were Gleasons: Edward Gleason 30 and his wife Bridget and Michael Gleason 25 and his wife.) on page 260, Household 467 is his brother Patrick 36 day laborer born in Ireland, Ann 19 born in Ireland, and Margaret 1/12 born in Wisconsin. 1870 Census for Wisconsin Waukesha County Waukesha: Dwelling # 280 Family # 275 Richard Russell age 36 male white Occupation: day labor, Value of real estate $1,000 and value of personal property $300. Place of birth Ireland. Father and mother foreign born. Male citizen. Can't read or write. Alice Russell age 33 female white Occupation: keeping house, Place of birth Ireland. Father and mother foreign born. Can't read or write. Jeremiah age 11 male white. Place of birth WI Richard age 9 male white. Place of birth WI Thomas age 7 male white. Place of birth WI Patrick age 6 male white. Place of birth WI John age 2 male white. Place of birth WI Note for all children that both parents were foreign born. (One or more Russell families in Waukesha had land with springs on it. The springs were later purchased by a brewing company that advertised "Made with Waukesha Waters". The springs were also a source for a water bottling company such as Hinkley & Schmidt.) Dwelling #344 Family # 337 Patrick Russell age 38 male white Occupation: RR employee, born in Ireland, Father and mother foreign born . Male citizen. Can't read or write Annie, age 30 female keeping house born in Ireland and both parents foreign born Thomas age 7 male white. Place of birth WI James age 5 male white. Place of birth WI Richard age 4 male white. Place of birth WI Anna age 2 female white. Place of birth WI John age 1 male white. Place of birth WI If we look at Irish naming patterns, we might deduce the following: Alice's father's name was Jeremiah, Richard's eldest brother is Patrick, and Alice's eldest brother was John. This researcher believes that Richard and Patrick were brothers and that their father's name was Thomas since each named a son Thomas. The parentage of Richard was established by Richard's death certificate which gave his father's name as Thomas Russell.

    3. Thank you Ellen and to those who have aslo expressed support,,,and I do hate to keep posting to the site but as I get on the average 2 dozen request daily...my mailbox runneth over so I admit,,I have been posting on each county site for a particular state,,,and keep my subscription open for a week or so , This way I dont miss the request that are sent to this site instead of to me directly. I do enjoy reading the request of others,,and many have much information not directed to my neck of the woods. My work here at Andersonville is to try to connect descendants to their ancestors who were here. There were 45000 prisoners held here. 5 to 6 generations...well..you do the math. With the interest in genealogy ,,especially in the time period of the Civil War...I do this in memorance of the survivors,,,but especially for those 12960 who died here. Andersonville is the National Prisoner of War site and has been an active National Cemetery with burials from February 27 1864 up to yesterday. We still have an average of 150 burials each year. It began as a hobby for me,,but has snowballed into an obsession to keep alive those who gave some,,,and those who gave all to my freedoms with the cost of their freedoms in all American wars since the revolution,,through the Civil War,,,including Union and Confederate POWS...through the Gulf war. I do appreciate all the support I am getting, but its the connections that I can get with researchers like yourself with those who were / are here,,that is my best reward. NOTE: My lisiting on my Wisconsin Atwater Death List is not acting right. I am working on it. 3. I would try to get a hold of marriage records if possible, that will give you a better clue to the true parentage. Often names are so close, we want to assume that it is our kinfolk, but when in actuality it is someone different. For example one of my ancestors was names John Radej. When I set out looking for John I found no less that 7 all born between 1840-1850. It took a couple years but I was eventually able to figure out which one was my ancestor. Come to find out, he moved to Montana and he was no where near the county where I thought he lived in Wisconsin. He was born in the county and died in the county I was researching, but .....he didn't live there for a portion of his life. The marriage record gave me the clues I needed to insure I was talking about the right John. This could explain your discrepency in birth years/ages.
