Actually, searching further I have found that an entire family tree back to 1774 for these folks is online. Try to go to http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=:1632299&id=I73022716 If you cannot get there without a membership let me know and I will send you the information privately. Lloyd and Crystal Crom, parents of Lowell, resided at 459 Maple Street, Milwaukee, in 1930. At that time, their other children were Lola, Boyd and Leo. I think that Crystal was a second wife of Lloyd, because it appears that Lloyd was married to someone named Lois, in St. Louis County, Minnesota, in 1921. In 1921 the family shows no children. Lowell was born in Minnesota, probably in St. Louis County -- the 1930 census has him as 6 years old in 1930, which would fit with your birth date of 30 June 1923. Lola and Leo also were born in Minnesota. The 12 year old son is listed in 1930 as born in Wisconsin. The wife is listed as born in Wisconsin with parents born in Pennsylvania. It does appear on the record that the wife Crystal was 20 years old in 1930, so seems as if Lois may have been the mother of Lowell. I suppose that you can get his birth record from St. Louis County, Minnesota. The 1920 census has Lloyd, age 21, in Prockterknoct Twsp., St. Louis County, Minnesota, born in Nebraska, parents born in Iowa and Pennsylvania. He was a worker on the railroad, in the round house. The wife Lois was born in Iowa, so I think it unlikely that she is the same person as Crystal -- perhaps the age of 20 appearing in the 1930 census for Crystal is right, but it looks like it might be 28, with the top loop left off. If these were my family members, I would bet that the Minnesota-born children are his, the 12 year old born in Wisconsin is hers, and that she was actually age 28 in 1930. It does appear that Lloyd Crom born 6 Feb. 1899, died June 1970 in Wisconsin, SSN 387-05-2685, most likely was your great grandfather. You can find out a great deal more about your family by sending for his application information f for the original social security card. Marcella's information also should be available. You can do a search for the Social Security Death Index on Ancestry.com. I think that this index and access to a service where you just click to get a prewritten letter and information to send away for the application info. is free. You might want to look online at some beginning genealogy information or get a book from the library about what to do next. You ought to be able to get quite a bit of information on this family. The Putney School is on Brookfield Road, just north of North Avenue. The school changed it's name to Brookfield Elementary in 1931. The school district of Elmbrook recently rebuilt the building due to the limited space and deteriorating condition of the original building and add ons. The new school welcomed students early 2002. According to a pamphlet I have on the Schools of Waukesha County, available records are as follows: At the school: school censuses, treasurers' reports, photos, history by Lucy Thatcher AT the Waukesha County museum are: attendance records 1859-1898, 1929-1936, district meeting minutes 1867-1897, teachers contracts 1866-1876, register of school officers and their terms, 1867-1890 dedication booklet, including some school history, 1858, clippings, graphics.
