Hi to Patricia and Penny, I remember the garage on Calhoun and Greenfield years ago, when my boyfriend (later husband) and I were young. He lived on Calhoun and Cleveland. I will certainly share my data with both of you, if you want. I do not remember what I have already give to Patricia, must have been quite a while ago. I do have pictures on the Snyder (Schneider) side, which I could send as an attachment, but none of Francis John Salentine. Please contact me at my e-mail address. Mary E. I am interested in hearing from anyone who remembers the Arcadian Garage on Greenfield Avenue, on the south side, just east of the corner of Calhoun Road. In my family, everyone old enough remembers going there for ice cream from my grandmother Ella Ziemer in the 1940's and 1950's. I am putting together a history of the garage -- my father grew up there. And I would love to hear from anyone who remembers it when my grandparents owned it, before 1950. Penny Ziemer Ford Denver
Dear Patricia, I am happy to see your message. Mary Stigler does have a lot of information about the Salentine family. This family lived right near my family -- my grandfather bought his land and business -- the garage that is still across the street from the Sentry on Greenfield Ave. and Calhoun Rd., in New Berlin, formerly Calhoun -- from the Simon family -- I think that Mrs. Simon was a Salentine. I do not have much information on the Salentines with me now because I am away from home. I do have more at my house in Denver. If you will write back to me at this email address, I will send you what information I have when I get back in early March. I think that Mary sent me much of what I do have, so there would be a lot of duplication. If you live in the Waukesha County area, you most likely will have an easier time getting information. But there is a lot you can find out from other descendants. I track this name, though I am not related, and I know there are several descendants trading information. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TFC.2ACE/606 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm attempting to track down my great grandmother Edwardeen Hale Bratt's (Bradt) parents - and it's proving to be difficult. Edwardeen was born in Sauk County WI in 1863. Her mother, "Netty" Hale was born to Orlando or Alonzo Hale in 1842 -census records are in conflict over where - in either NY or IL - most say NY. Netty's mother or stepmother was named Nancy. I have found a family in the 1850 census for Waukesa, town of Summit - which lists a family headed by an Alonzo Hale - carpenter and builder, from NY. No wife, but quite a few children - one 9 year old daughter seems to be named "Ianetti" or "Janetti" - the handwriting is difficult to read. The youngest child Emily is listed as age 2 - born in Wis. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a death of a wife to this HALE. I find "Netty" married in 1860 in Sauk county WI to James Bradt or Bratt - no trace of her or any Hales there in 1850. Orlando or Alonzo Hale was living in Boone county Illinois in 1840 with a brother Oliver - they reportedly left NY to go into the lumber business "out west". Orlando or Alonzo is gone in 1850. This is all I have to go on, I may be on a wild goose chase - but having seen a series of mis-spellings in other census records - I have to try to track this family down. Hope someone has some information that can either confirm or refute this as possibility. Thanks, Denise

Church baptismal records may be a better source or check the 1860 census.
Lookups are possibly available through one of my lookup volunteers found here http://www.linkstothepast.com/waukesha/lookups.html Records available Waukesha Birth Records after 1860 Death Records after 1872 Marriage after 1846 However, I do know that births before 1860 were registered after 1860. For info on how to obtain these records look here http://www.linkstothepast.com/waukesha/charges.html Hope that helps! Moses MCFARLANE was my great grandfather. Amy Belle MCFARLANE daughter of Moses and Mary PURVES was born 26 Mar 1887 and died 17 Sep 1890. She fell into a cauldron of boiling water in the yard while her mother was doing laundry. What a tragedy and how guilty her mother must have felt!
