Hi The Waukesha Freeman has numerous articles. You can subscribe at Ancestry.com October 9, 1902 Joshua H. Green for Register of Deeds. He has been a resident of the town of Summit and has resided on a farm there since 1888, although, he purchased the farm while located at Duluth in 1883. Mr Green spent his boyhood and early manhood at Troy, NY., and is a graduate of the old Gale school of that city, at which many successful men received their education. The most romantic period of ten months which in his 15th year he spent with the army of the Potomac. He ahd two brothers in the 125th NY Regt., and after having promised not to enlist, he received the consent of his mother to visit his brothers for a few days, but these few days stretched out to ten months. At the commencement of his visit the brothers were at Centervill, but in the subsequent movements, young Green marched as the other soldiers did and was in fact a part of that great army of the union. He was present at the battle of Gettysburg, at Manasas Gap, and several other lesser fights. But he was finally stricken with fever and was sent home, more dead than alive, and devoted th next two years to recuperationg, under the tender care of devoted parents. When comparatively well again he learned the trade of a manufacturer of surveying instruments, and also equipped himself as a civil engineer and he became a book-keeper and superintendent for contractors of public works along the great lakes. After 30 years of age he was employed at various times from Montreal to Duluth. Shattered health compelled him to give up and retire to his farm in 1888. Five years later he was elected chairman of the town of Summit, and the next year he was re-elected, and became chairman of the county board, serving 2 terms. Five years ago he returned to Duluth as a superintendent of harbor work, but his health would not stand the strain and he once more returned to his farm. Mr. Green has an interesting family and his eldest son is a cadet at West Point. His nomination will give strength to the ticket. 1906 re-election article has his picture. If this is your Joshua--there is alot of info! The census is a good place to start. BUT... you have a very interesting ancestor. If you don't have a subscription to ancestry.com .. try a large LDS family history center. Many of them now have a subscription. There are many write-ups and several photos of Joshua Green in the Waukesha Freeman. He was Registrar of Deeds 1902-1906. When he stood for election in 1902, the newspaper did a background story. This is only highlights. Raised in Troy, NY at age 15, went to visit 2 brothers who were in the 125th NY fighting for the union. He stayed gone for 10mos. saw several large battles. Sent home with a fever, 2yrs. to recover. In 1890's chairman of the town of Summit and served 2 terms on county board Eldest son cadet at West Point (1902) Wish I had such an interesting gr.grandfather! Good Luck Judy

Hi, Ellen, Thanks. I found this group -- not sure if they are related or not. But Dawn A. (whose family is associated heavily with mine throughout our history in Brookfield) wrote to say that she found that a Johann Kerber buried at Wauwatosa was the husband of Fredericke Brede. This Fredericke Brede, b. 1849, was the sister of my 2x great grandfather Wilhelm, who is buried at Oak Hill, and Theodore Senior, buried at Wauwatosa. She is the daughter of the "old Bredes" whose information you sent me a couple of weeks back, and (according to info Wauwatosa sent me a few days ago, based upon your help) is buried with them. Where were Johann Kerber and Fredericke in 1880? Were they in Milwaukee or Waukesha County in 1878 when Fredericke's father died / was buried at Wauwatosa? I think most likely they were. More soon.
