    3. May I add something to the dicussion on the School for the Deaf. My Grandparents worked there for a while after their retirement, in the 1950's. They first worked as "cooks", later I remember my parents saying they were "houseparents". I surmise the dormitories had people who were in charge of being there for the children, acting in a parental roll, to make life alittle more normal, while the children were "going to school". Many of them were from other parts of the state. I'm sure this practise dated back to the early days of the school, somewhat. This is just an assumption on my part, as to why the children were listed in groups, somewhat like a household, but with individule names. Many of them stayed in the area, after growing to adulthood, since it became their home and the residents of the city, treated them as part of their city. Just some thoughts to hopefully help you in your search.
