    3. Rebecca, I'm going to give you my thoughts on your g-grandmother, Esther. There was a common "practice" of familys, where if a brother in a family died young, with wife and children, one of the single brothers would marry the widow. She and the children would be care for, also the family name would continue on. Example, when my husband's grandfather died in an accident, one of the grandfather's brothers, proposed to his widowed grandmother, this was about 1943 or so. She refused, never remarried, and found ways of supporting herself, since her children were mostly grown at that time. I have this happenning in my family but earlier in the 1800's. Just a thought to add to things.
