The latest cemetery publications will be a wonderful addition to those people searching their ancestors and do not know where they are buried. Oak Ridge Cemetery at East Troy and the very old Pioneer Cemetery in Lake Geneva are two much needed resources now ready to use by WCGS. The Pioneer Cemetery book was dedicated to the late Dottie Barnes with her new enthusiasm and her boundless energy, she became an inspiration to many members, including the other half of the “Double D Diggers”, Diana Bird. A history of the cemetery and Lake Geneva was added along with maps, and pertinent obituaries making this a very interesting and important book for your Lake Geneva collection. Pioneer Cemetery was the first cemetery in Lake Geneva and is close to the downtown area. Burials began in 1837. The 65-foot Burton-Denison-Hackett family marble obelisk . Several Veteran’s Graves Registrations are included; names like, Powers, Stoodlay, Barr, Fairchild, Ross, and Weatherwax. Also listed are lot owners from Abell to Young with many unknowns. Cost of the Pioneer Cemetery book is $15.00 plus s/h. Oak Ridge Cemetery is a great addition for those people researching ancestors in East Troy. This could help find those who crossed over the county line from Mukwonago. There are over 2300 burials are included. This publication is $20.00 plus s/h. The newest edition of the 2003 Surname Index is a compilation of the surnames being researched by members of WCGS. There is a list of surnames, and then an ID number to use to contact the correct researcher. This book sells for $15.00 plus s/h. There are two other previous books also available. Declaration & Naturalization Papers – Book 2 & 3 (combined) is an excellent listing of our ancestors who may have applied for a declaration of intent, or “first papers”, listing where they were born, the year they were born and the date they declared this information; and then naturalizations, or the final papers, which will give much more information, including which ship they came over on and more specifics. Book 2 was rather small so it is combined with Book 3. The cost is $20.00 plus s/h. Delavan Sesquicentennial Newspaper collection; and the Delavan School History Index from the 1980’s are both papers from the Delavan Enterprise which WCGS received permission to print. WCGS reduced the size to 8½ x 11 and these are a terrific resource for those doing Delavan research. These are loaded with excellent photos from the Enterprise. Both sell for $15.00 each plus s/h. Also available is the In Memoriam issue of the Delavan Enterprise of all 8,000 Delavan burials up to 1995. This includes Spring Grove, St. Andrew’s, the Arboretum, and Old Settler’s.
