I have Joachim (Joseph in WI) b. 1828 in Hesser Darmstadt(?). He immigrated in 1856 to Franklin, Milwaukee County (all according to 1860 Census). (Listed as Copen or Capen). Looks like he came with spouse, Caroline, and daughter Sophia. Had 2 daughters in Franklin and then a son, John (my ggrandfather) in 1866. Haven't been able to locate them in 1870 Census, but they are listed again in 1880. (LDS site has them as "Roeppen".) Their birth place is listed as Mecklenberg. After that, I have all the details on John, but nothing more on Joseph and Caroline. John had several children, including 2 sons, George (1889) and Frank (1893) when they were living in Burlington. There were other Koeppens in Milwaukee County at the time, but haven't been able to connect them. My hunch is that they may have been related in Germany. And I don't know if there is any connection to Walworth County, but wouldn't that be fun? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
