I don't know if this is relavent to your sereach, but I remember both Koch and Keoppen surnames, in the East Troy, Walworth Co., area, when I was growing up. I went to high school with a young man: Gary Koch , and my Mother and Father had a friend from Eastern Star by the name of Vera Koeppen, she was around 70/ 80 years old, back in the late 60's. I remember her as a widow at that time, can't seem to remember her husband's name. There may have been children, but they were all grown by that time. They moved to Minnesota and on 1860 census they had 3 children: Edward, Frank Orrin and daughter Ella born April 1851 Wisconsin (probably in Hudson Twp). Seek exact birth dates and possible maiden name of mother Permelia. Daughter Ella Jane is the 2nd wife of Dr. William E. FIFIELD, a physician, and she also becomes a physician. Dr. Fifield's first wife was Catherine A. GRAHAM and they had 1 daughter Annie who wed Charles H. ODELL son of Milan Milton ODELL of Sacramento City, CA Thank you! My Koeppen came over in the 1880s. All were born in/around Reblow,Anklam,Mecklenburg. I have a book I'll check over the weekend. Might come up with something there. I'll email in a day or so. I have Joachim (Joseph in WI) b. 1828 in Hesser Darmstadt(?). He immigrated in 1856 to Franklin, Milwaukee County (all according to 1860 Census). (Listed as Copen or Capen). Looks like he came with spouse, Caroline, and daughter Sophia. Had 2 daughters in Franklin and then a son, John (my ggrandfather) in 1866. Haven't been able to locate them in 1870 Census, but they are listed again in 1880. (LDS site has them as "Roeppen".) Their birth place is listed as Mecklenberg. After that, I have all the details on John, but nothing more on Joseph and Caroline. John had several children, including 2 sons, George (1889) and Frank (1893) when they were living in Burlington. There were other Koeppens in Milwaukee County at the time, but haven't been able to connect them. My hunch is that they may have been related in Germany. And I don't know if there is any connection to Walworth County, but wouldn't that be fun? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you have any names that I can check my tree against. I actually have quite a bit of Koeppen info but most of it is on paper at this point. Look forward to hearing from you. I'm interested in your Koeppen line because I'm from Walworth County, my brother lives in Walworth, and our Koeppens lived in Franklin and Burlington. Maybe a connection, maybe not. ??
