He married Ruth Peterson. Vernie was born in Fulton, MO on 25 Dec 1893. We believe that Ruth was born in 1898. His Draft Registration Card states that they lived on Dodge St in Lake Geneva. He worked as a chauffeur for a Mr. E G Potter. Soon thereafter they must have left that area and moved to Chicago where in 1918 their daughter LaVerne was born. We do not have any official records pertaining to Ruth. We do have a letter by a Clara Williams that seems to indicate that Ruth had a brother named Walter. We also belive that her father was born in Denmark and her mother in Sweden. Any information or help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Pete Z. Oak Ridge Cemetery isn't in Troy, it's in East Troy. Is there anyone who has access to a list of those buried in Evergreen/Quarterline Cemetery in Troy? I found that Francis/Frank Loomis and his wife Louise are buried there. I was curious to see if they had any children who may be also in that cemetery. Nana
I just made a new discovery and that is there is a site that has some pictures of those buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Troy. There are a lot of names and pics...This might help another researcher. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/cemetery/walworth.html
After I made my request and was lucky enough to get some great info I remembered to go to www.findagrve.com. There are 24 listings for Oak Ridge.... none that can help me, but I thought that those who might be looking should know about this site. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=88613

Thanks, Cindy. I also have ancestry and have looked at census data. I will try to find out just what cemeteries are in the area. I think that the various Loomis families were connected as Horace Loomis was born in VT and I think I have seen some queries which are for another Loomis from VT. Actually my direct line is Hall but I am trying to find the Hall/Loomis group that came to Troy and Fond du Lac. Thank you for replying. Nana, I am repling to your query with just a bit more information. Troy is no longer a town, it is unincorperated. There is a church and probably a cemetery locarted there. But the main town now is East troy, as the name implies, east of Troy. I live in Colorado, but wanted you to know that you may have to look in East Troy, for any census information. The name LOOMIS, is a very common name in East Troy, I'm sure either my Mother, or one of her children went to High School with a LOOMIS or two. I hope you find someone to look in the cemeteries, sorry I can't help there. I have an ancestry subscription, and could do some census look ups if you need those. Hello, I am new to this list and wondering if there is someone who is subscribed to the list who might have access to a lookup for a cemetery in Troy, WI. I am looking for the family of Horace LOOMIS who acquired land in this area in 1855 and I could not find in any census after 1855. This family consisted of Horace and wife Abigail Hall Loomis . I am sure they died in Troy and are buried there. Also in the same family were sons Charles A. Loomis with wife Jennie and son Francis/Frank Loomis. I would be grateful if someone could help me. Sincerely, Nana (NAYna) Redell

The TURNER family I have is Anson Turner, b. abt. 1815 in NY, married Levinah Van Valin Sept. 25, 1836 probably in New York around Rochester. They are in the 1840 and 1850 census in Geneva, Walworth County. I cannot find Anson after the 1850 census. Children: Charles b. abt. 1840 in WI Charlotte b. abt. 1844 in WI Jerome b. abt. 1846 in WI Emma b. June 5, 1850 in WI In 1860 I find a Melvina Turner of the right age, right birth place in 2nd ward of Chicago with Charlotte and Jerome who are the right age as well. I know that Emma was raised by Levinah's sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Alvin Flint, who in 1860 were in Princeton, Green Lake Co., WI. I know nothing of Charles, and I don't find Levinah, Charlotte or Jerome again. Emma moved with her aunt and uncle to Chickasaw Co., Iowa in the late 1860s and she married in 1875 Frank Hollenbeck. They had one son, Turner Hollenbeck, who married and had no children. I get the sense that something perhaps unsavory transpired with Anson & Levinah. Levinah had lots of extended family in southern WI, so I'm curious about why she may have gone to Chicago if she were widowed... Emma seemed to get very creative with info about her youth, per census records and even her obit. Just gives me the feeling something haunted her. Any connections? What I can say, Burlington is located in Racine County. The cause of death would be on the death certificate located there. It also should state where she was when she passed away (as well as the burial cemetery) and possibly the doctor's name. As for finding out about medical conditions, I have a similiar issue in my family and if you want official medical records, you USUALLY have to get a court order to open the records for view. So if you can find distant relatives who has collected info. via other methods, it might be easier. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Sorry it took so long to respond. I have been checking through my records and all I have been able to come up with is copies of photos of some of the tombstones from the Salterstown cemetery. I will try and copy and get them to you if you are intersted. They are basically regarding Toner. My gg grandparents Michael Byrne (1806-1873)and Bridget Ball (1819-1872) came from Salterstown, County Louth, to Walworth County in 1848. Their daughter Bridget Byrne (1852-1918) married Patrick Madden (1850-1932). Bridget Byrne/Patrick Madden's son John Madden (1872-1929) married Bridget McCabe. This Bridget would obviously be a different generation than the one you're looking for, but the Salterstown/Walworth connection is significant so lineage is likely the same. Gravestone inscriptions from Salterstown (Journal of County Louth Archeological and Historical Society): "IHS here lies the remains of Thomas Toner of Salterstown who depart'd this life the 10th of Decr 1774 aged 43 yrs. Also his wife Catherine Lawless who died the 5th of Novr 1794 aged 75 yrs. Also Andrew Toner who died AD 1762 aged 5 years." Families whose child died young frequently gave a later child the same name. I hope this helps - I have more about the ! > Byrne and Madden families in WI, and other headstone inscriptions in Salterstown. There are quite a few families who came from Salterstown to Walworth Co. And I'd like to know what you have. > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
