    3. This is a reply to the Barnes name query. The surname shows up in East Troy, Walworth County, in the 1950's, through at least the 70's, that I personally have knowledge. I don't know if this is the family you are searching, but wanted to add to this query. _________________________________________________________________ Need to know the score, the latest news, or you need your Hotmail®-get your "fix". http://www.msnmobilefix.com/Default.aspx

And the possibilities you have found. I am searching for information about Matilda's parents, any other possible siblings other than her sisters Roxy and Lucinda as well as any family members for Asa P Williams. I'm stumped as to why Matilda moved to Wisconsin leaving behind a sister in Illinois while sister Lucinda and mother Dorcas Fox moved to Iowa. There simply had to be some compelling reason for moving alone with her children to Wisconsin. Asa having died in 1863, it is unlikely that he was the father of Lettie and impossible for him to be the father of Angelina. I am hoping for a family connection there perhaps leading to illumination of previous generations of Williams'. Do you know when the Congregationalist church was built in Elkhorn? My oldest sis sometimes has a table at the flea market there. If the church was around in 1870 I might be able to persuade her to make inquiries there. Thank you very much for taking the time to help out a stranger in New Mexico! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm wondering if anyone can help me to find more information about Henry Davis Barnes (or H D Barnes), born in 1842 in Sherburne NY, moved to Elkhorn/Spring Prairie area approx. 1850's. Father, Joseph A. Barnes, Mother, Lovinia Yaw. Married to Mary L.(?) Hay, born about 1847 (NY or WI?). Sisters Adeline and Helen M Barnes. Had children Herbert T. Barnes, b. 1876, Lovinia R. Barnes, b. 1878, and Henry Davis Barnes, Jr, 1886 (who later relocated to San Diego County, CA), perhaps others as well. I know Henry Sr. was in the 28th Regiment of Wisconsin Infantry in the Civil War as a musician. Anything you can add would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! I haven't had time to do lookups in a long time but I do have some limited access here at home. I do have an obit listing for Israel Williams, it appears on pg 5 of the Geneva Herald on 1/26/1883. This may provide some of his family member's names and help you determine if there is a connection there. I don't show a Mary or Lettie but I'll give some variation possibilities. I have a Luella Williams Fairchild 1866-1943 appears on pg 2 Regional News issue 9/23/1943. I also show a Maria Williams Burton 1849-1909 appears on pg 1 Regional News issue 2/4/1909. I've found that name variations during that time were common and are usually worth looking into. Anyways, copies can be saught out through the Lake Geneva Library reference desk librarian phone #262-249-5299. My cemetery database is limited in that I don't have dates, only names & which cemetery they are, but at least it's a starting point. I do show some variations of those names listed in the Old Settler's & East Delavan & Spring Grove all located in Delavan, WI (the next town over from Elkhorn). Anyways, what specific info are you looking for? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (Matilda's maiden name and married name were Williams.) After her husband, Asa P Williams' death in 1863, Matilda moved from Ogle Co., Illinois to Elkhorn, Wisconsin. The 1870 census shows Matilda in Elkhorn with Edward, Joseph, Mary, Lettie and Angelina, Ed, Joe and Mary are listed as children of Asa and Matilda on Asa's Civil War records. I suspect that Lettie and Angelina were adopted by Matilda. Perhaps the reason she moved to Elkhorn(?) In 1880 Matilda is living in Monroe Co., Wisconsin with Joe and Angelina. I have no idea what became of Mary and Lettie. Death? Marriage? My Williams family is said to be related to the family of Israel Williams who founded Williams Bay. Matilda's father, John Wiliams, was born in England so I suspect any relativity would be through Asa P Williams of whom I have little information. He was born 1822/3 in Canada/Mass. Was living on Kelley's Island, Erie, Ohio in 1850. Byron, Ogle, Illinois in 1860. Died in Nasville, TN in 1863. Matilda was a Congregationalist. 3. May I add something to the dicussion on the School for the Deaf. My Grandparents worked there for a while after their retirement, in the 1950's. They first worked as "cooks", later I remember my parents saying they were "houseparents". I surmise the dormitories had people who were in charge of being there for the children, acting in a parental roll, to make life alittle more normal, while the children were "going to school". Many of them were from other parts of the state. I'm sure this practise dated back to the early days of the school, somewhat. This is just an assumption on my part, as to why the children were listed in groups, somewhat like a household, but with individule names. Many of them stayed in the area, after growing to adulthood, since it became their home and the residents of the city, treated them as part of their city. Just some thoughts to hopefully help you in your search. It does not identify as School for the Deaf, but, beginning on p. 30 and to p. 35, the names are in alphabetical order - before then they are not. ALso, they are listed as one person only - the rest have several people in the household. It lists number of males and number of females in household. Page 30 to most of p. 35 are one person only. I have no idea when the adoption took place. I believe I found his original family...on the 1870 Census Records for Spring Prairie, Walworth County, showing Mary Busack born in Prussia about 1802 (without occupation), Eliza Busack born in Prussia about 1835 (without occupation), brother John born in Prussia about 1859 and then Willie, age 2, born around 1868. There was NO father listed and the age of "Willie" matches up with my GG-Grandfather. How can I prove this was his family or find this adoption record? Whatever happened to the rest of his "Busack" family? Willie was born on a ship arriving in New York and I cannot find that ship which they came in on either?
