Surnames: ALL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QFC.2ACE/711 Message Board Post: Finally after several months I'm back to doing research. I live in Walworth CO & will be going to the courthouse within the next week. I can do lookups for Birth, marriage, death records for anyone who needs them. I can also do copies of obits for the Lake Geneva Regional News going back to 1870 I believe. If you need anything please respond to THIS message with at least the Surname, year range and which record you want info from. I can look directly at these vitals and write down the contents for free. If your ancestor is there and you want the official copy, you'll have to send for the record.

    3. Well again thanks. Discovering this info about the Poor House will probably culminate over 6 years of work on this branch of the family. There has been this dead end (no pun intended) that will open up I hope. I have discovered one of the daughters worked/lived with/for the Sup of the Poor, 1880, the other worked for the Clerk of Court. These seem to indicate some financial problems to me. I think I will call DSS in Walworth County and see what records are still around. (I know the store well, although sleeping on a futon is something I will never do again. We live in Ballantree 28803 and my wife is the Vice Pres of Asheville Buncombe Technical College...he'll know what that is.) Thanks again for the help. 3. Does anyone have information on this institution - when it opened, where it was? My ggg grandmother is said to have went a bit crazy when her twin brother was killed in a shipping accident. She was alive in 1850 and disappeared after that. She supposedly lived until age 80 or 90 which would be 1870 or 1880. Lucy Baldwin Bessey lived in Wheatland Twp, Kenosha Co., WI which borders Walworth, so am interested. Carolyn

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Babcock Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QFC.2ACE/705.1 Message Board Post: This is a stretch, but there is a biographical sketch for Alexander O. Babcock in the "History of Walworth Co, WI -1882" (p. 543) under the Town of East Troy. It never mentions his wife's first name, so can this be Vernette's first husband? Alexander O. Babcock was a native of Homer, NY and came to East Troy, WI in 1843. He established a law office in East Troy and died there in 1875. ...."Mr. Babcock had not long been a resident of our village before he selected a site and built a mansion for his future home. With fine taste and great perseverance, he adorned his grounds, making his home one of the most delightful retreats to be found in the county. Here his widow still resides (in 1882), and, in the sorrow of her widowhood, seems to find her sweetest comfort in continuing the work of beautifying her lonely home."
