There is a need at the Walworth County Genealogical Society Library for the following County Histories: Waukesha, Jefferson, Racine, and Kenosha. The counties border Walworth and have had such an impact on our ancestors lives in the past. They traveled back and forth. As you do your research, you probably have had to travel back and forth for records also. The County Histories reveal some of those travels and tell some of the stories. If you have one you are willing to donate or find one at a sale, WCGS will appreciate your donation and thoughtfulness. Thank you. Peggy Rockwell Gleich WCGS Past President

I am trying to get information about a painting I have in my posession. It is a large oil entitled "Ears of Corn" which one first prize in the Wisconsin State Fair or the Walworth County Fair in abt 1886. My grandmother, Nina Kathryn Wylie (Kit Wylie) painted it and supposedly it won first prize in the fair. Family lore says the Wisconsin State Fair but she was from Spring Prairie so I am wondering if it could be the Walworth County Fair. I am quite positive it was the summer of 1886 but it could possibly have been 1885. Can anyone tell me how I might find out about this? Thanks for any help that can be given. It is a beautiful painting and I would like some accurate history about it to include as I pass this on to the next generation. Gay Wickersham Davis

My ggrandmother, Nina Kathryn Wylie, attended "girls' college" at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. My understanding was that it was some sort of "finishing school" for girls. She was born in 1868 and was married in 1887. She graduated from the school prior to her marriage, so I believe the date would be approximately 1885/6, when she was 17 or 18 years old. Since her family lived in Spring Prairie, it is possible that she boarded at the school while attending it, although she could have lived with a family in Lake Geneva while attending. Can anyone tell me anything about this school? Thanks so much for any information given. Gay Wickersham Davis Researching Hempsted, Wylie, Pratt, Bristol, Puffer, Webb in Walworth County

I'm from East Troy, WI., grew up there, all your "family names" are known to me! There are people in the East Troy area, still very much alive, with these names. I went to school with Atkinson, Deist and Grunewald, and had a elementary teacher with the last name Miller. My sister is the secretary for the East Troy High School Alumni. If you would be interested in some addresses from some of these surnames, she could probably supply you with that information. Please send me an e-mail to [email protected] and I'll give you her e-mail. Hope to hear from you soon. Cindy Brewer Dooley
