Their children were Philip, Katarzyna, Joseph, and Mary (my great-grandmother). I believe they lived in Walworth County between 1876-1889. I'm looking for any evidence that they lived there. I know they lived in Chicago in 1990, but I don't know where they lived prior to that. I have been unable to find them in the 1880 census. I will greatly appreciate any information you can give me. Their surname was Cregier, but their actual surname could be a variation of that name. Kathy

New Publications Released by WCGS The Walworth County Genealogical Society would like to announce the release of their newest publications: Pioneer Cemetery of Lake Geneva; Oak Ridge Cemetery of East Troy; 2003 Surname Index; Declaration & Naturalization Papers, Vol. 2 & 3 (combined); Walworth County WI Newspaper Clippings Index, Volume 6 (Area County Newspapers plus Janesville Gazette and others); the Delavan Sesquicentennial Newspaper collection; and the Delavan School History Index from the 1980’s. The latest cemetery publications will be a wonderful addition to those people searching their ancestors and do not know where they are buried. Oak Ridge Cemetery at East Troy and the very old Pioneer Cemetery in Lake Geneva are two much needed resources now ready to use by WCGS. The Pioneer Cemetery book was dedicated to the late Dottie Barnes with her new enthusiasm and her boundless energy, she became an inspiration to many members, including the other half of the “Double D Diggers”, Diana Bird. A history of the cemetery and Lake Geneva was added along with maps, and pertinent obituaries making this a very interesting and important book for your Lake Geneva collection. Pioneer Cemetery was the first cemetery in Lake Geneva and is close to the downtown area. Burials began in 1837. The 65-foot Burton-Denison-Hackett family marble obelisk . Several Veteran’s Graves Registrations are included; names like, Powers, Stoodlay, Barr, Fairchild, Ross, and Weatherwax. Also listed are lot owners from Abell to Young with many unknowns. Cost of the Pioneer Cemetery book is $15.00 plus s/h. Oak Ridge Cemetery is a great addition for those people researching ancestors in East Troy. This could help find those who crossed over the county line from Mukwonago. There are over 2300 burials are included. This publication is $20.00 plus s/h. The newest edition of the 2003 Surname Index is a compilation of the surnames being researched by members of WCGS. There is a list of surnames, and then an ID number to use to contact the correct researcher. This book sells for $15.00 plus s/h. There are two other previous books also available. Declaration & Naturalization Papers – Book 2 & 3 (combined) is an excellent listing of our ancestors who may have applied for a declaration of intent, or “first papers”, listing where they were born, the year they were born and the date they declared this information; and then naturalizations, or the final papers, which will give much more information, including which ship they came over on and more specifics. Book 2 was rather small so it is combined with Book 3. The cost is $20.00 plus s/h. Delavan Sesquicentennial Newspaper collection; and the Delavan School History Index from the 1980’s are both papers from the Delavan Enterprise which WCGS received permission to print. WCGS reduced the size to 8½ x 11 and these are a terrific resource for those doing Delavan research. These are loaded with excellent photos from the Enterprise. Both sell for $15.00 each plus s/h. Also available is the In Memoriam issue of the Delavan Enterprise of all 8,000 Delavan burials up to 1995. This includes Spring Grove, St. Andrew’s, the Arboretum, and Old Settler’s. The Enterprise has given WCGS permission to sell this publication also. This is in newspaper size. Walworth County WI Newspaper Clippings Index, Volume 6 Volume Six is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings entirely compiled by Beatrice West Seitz, late member of the Walworth County Genealogical Society. Mrs. Seitz gathered clippings of mostly obituaries, but also other newsworthy items. Dates included, for this volume, are between 1 May 1976 to 30 April 1977. This is the fourth volume is a five-volume set given to WCGS by Mrs. Seitz. Other publications available include: LaGrange Pioneers (with every name index), 1873 Walworth County Atlas ( with every name index), 1882 Walworth County History Index, 1912 Walworth County History Index, Lake Geneva Area Obituaries, Delavan Area World War I Service Records, Index to the Annals of Whitewater, Unknown Burials, Brick Church Cemetery, Darien Cemetery, Walworth Center Cemetery, Hillside Cemetery, Richmond Cemeteries, Little Prairie Cemetery and a variety of others. Shipping and handling on all books is $2.00 for the first book and $1.00 for each additional book. You may have an article copied by sending $1.00 per copy and a large self-addressed, stamped envelope to: WCGS, PO Box 159, Delavan WI 53115. WCGS is not responsible for errors possibly occurring in data entry or in the original articles. You may visit the WCGS library on Tuesdays, located on the lower level of the Aram Public Library, 404 East Walworth Avenue, Delavan, to obtain a copy of the book or copies of a page for a fee, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment. They were from either Millard, East Troy, or Elkhorn area. I really can't give you any other information, because I don't live there anymore. This would have been 30 years or more. Seems to me there was a girl by the name of Ells, that was older then I, but went to East Troy High School. Back then it depended where you lived in the county, as to where you attended High School. Sorry I don't have anymore. I'd suggest looking on Classmates.com, East troy High School, seems to be well represented, and she may have put her name on their list. Cindy brewer Dooley
I haven't been investigating my roots for a while and thought I would throw out a line and see if there are any bites. My ancestor is Chauncy Betts who died in 1869 in Delevan WI. He uprooted his family from Betts Corner, Lysander, Onondaga County, New York and settled in Delevan. His wife of many years was Maria Ann Mather, a relative of Cotton Mather, the renoun preacher. Am looking for any information about this family. Don't have much on the desc. but have a lot about the ancestors. Candee Hoff old email address [email protected] new email address [email protected]

As some of you know I have been tracing those MORRISSEY boys in Elkhorn for some time now. My great grand dad was WILLIAM Sr and his brothers lived and worked in your parts for a few years back in the 1850's through the the present. Anyhow, there was the one brother MICHAEL that nobody knows much about. His wife was MARY and he had three kids: KATE: b 1859 or so NEDDIE (EDWARD) b 1863 or so and Mary b 1865 or so. They were all RC and MICHAEL was brother to WILLIAM , PATRICK and DANIEL, some of what can be said were 'founding stock' of Elkhorn. In any event they laid a lot of bricks. I can find them here and there in Walworth County, mainly in Sugar Creek, but in 1880 the girls had been farmed out as servant help to a couple of the local politicos or so says the census. MICHAEL died in Sugar Creek in 1891 and the state and county have his record. Says he was buried in Delevan. Not at St Andrews or so they say. In 1900 mother Mary and the boy Eddie are in Sugar Creek and the girls can't be found. Nothing after that can be firmed up. I found today however in St Patrick's burial book from the LDS folks an EDWARD MORRISSEY, parents MICHAEL and MARY, died in 17 Nov 1917, b 1863 or so. Died in Elkhorn, buried on the 19th in Delevan. Darned if I ever saw that at the County Records in Elkhorn, but who knows. Could I get somebody to look at the Clerk's Offfice and maybe walk across the street to the newspaper and see if there is an obit? Sure would help out and it might help solve a bit of a mystery.
