Surnames: KELLER KEULER MILLER POWELL ROYCE STROEBEL TUCKWOOD Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QFC.2ACE/776 Message Board Post: THE WHITEWATER REGISTER April 27, 1933 p. 1, c. 2 W. J. POWELL DIES AT WHEEL OF HIS CAR Citizens returning to the business district Tuesday afternoon were stunned to learn that a message had come from Milwaukee telling of the sudden death of Walter Powell. It was hard to believe and harder to realize for he had spent half the morning in the J. c. Coxe company store, amiably meeting customers as he had done for nearly 40 years. Abour 10:00 Mrs. Powell, Walter, and their daughter, Marguerite, left for Milwaukee, who was driving, came upon a truck halted at an arterial. Not seeing the light obscured by the truck and not realizing that it was an arterial he pulled out around and was half way across the street when he saw that he had violated a traffic rule. He hesitated, then drove across where he was met by a traffic officer who motioned him to the curb. The official was not particularly harsh, according to Mrs. Powell, nor was he very conciliatory. The conversation upset Walter just enough to throw an added strain on his defective heart and he collapsed over the wheel. A momentary effort to revive him was fruitless and he was hurried to the Milwaukee County Hospital. Physician’s there stated that life was extinct. Probably no one in Whitewater knew more people or was known to more that Walter Powell. his daily contacts with the public over a period of four decades, together with a good memory, made him somewhat of an authority on our citizens. He was a member of the M. E. church, of the Fire Department and Masonic Order. Walter was born in Whitewater on September 28th, 1878 and on May 21st, 1910 was married to Miss Lillian Keller of Jefferson. There are two children, a daughter marguerite and a son Walter Jr.; W. S. Powell of Stevens Point is a brother and Mrs. H. E. Fowler of this city is a sister. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M. E. church and interment will follow at Hillside. Rev. W. R. Conner will officiate.

The Ruidl's were from Black Forest, Germany, and the DeSmedt's were Belgiums. The oldest Ruidl's I have are Edward and Karl Ruidl. I know nothing more on Karl, but Edward was born 1874, Germany, and died 4 Feb 1941 in St. Louis Co., Mn. Edward married Cathrine (Kathrine) Ann Ziegler (b. 1885, d. 25 Jul 1952 St. Louis Co., Mn). They had about 8 kids -- Dorothy, Michael, Edward 'Eddy', Patrick 'Pat', Loraine, Mary, Alice, and Selina (Sally), I've been told by family members and friends that it was thought that Edward had been briefly in Wisconsin before coming on to Minnesota. It's also believed that he came to Wisconsin straight from Germany. The oldest DeSmedt's I have are: Charles 'Carolus' and his wife Elodie. Charles died mysteriously in a barn fire accident in Belgium before Elodie and her children came over to the U.S. The Children are as follows: Maurice Joseph DeSmedt (b.13 Feb 1894 - Belgium, d. 16 Jun 1975, Duluth, Mn. -- married to Rosie Mosiniak), Aime, Marshall, Ester, Elsie, Mary, Omer, Robert, and Albert. I wish I could verify all this for my family's sake! If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! I don't have ANY idea where else to look!

OR may have been there for a short time like after the birth of the children 1883-1889. I will check with the library to see if there are any land plat books from 1876-1889 time frame - not sure. How did the deed mention Walworth Co? As previous residence?

I wish I had a picture for you as you would say that Mae walked of the Reservation..LOL. I do find it odd that many of my relatives moved from NY to Illinois and Wisconsin.
