Hi! I wanted to share with everyone a great magazine we bought this week, called Family Tree Yearbook 2004. It is just full of great ideas--many internet resources and well worth the $4.99 price. Using this magazine's list of web sites you can spend many hours at the computer surfing new sites. I found my magazine at Woodman's grocery store in Janesville. They have a large magazine section. I'm sure you can also find it in bookstores. Dawn Brooks

I was totally suprised to find that there was only one issue microfilmed for the year 1880. Does anyone know where I might find additional issues from that year? The issue dated Feb 12, 1880 had the lead in to the research I am trying to do on the Fogarty murder case. The entry reads " Monday morning Sheriff Comstock arrived from Janesville with Mrs. Fogarty and Jim Snell. They were assigned rooms at the County Hotel."

Well, I have tried cross referencing the Lewis to Wheeler and Lewis to Burdick,Burdick to Wheeler. There are ties along the way but way to confusing for me ..lol! There are some Burdick spelled burdik that have native. But all three names can host a native background. Man o Man my eyes are getting weak here reseraching. There is a refernce to a Peleg Clark Burdick tied to a Henry Lewis through marriage. Here is my suspect as of today. I think the Wheeler's were a relative of Lewis family or freinds or employer. I am wondering do have any names for the older lady wheeler that mae was listed as boarder? Or a maiden name for that same person? I dont know but I think we got our work cut out for us here..;-)! I hope your well, Lee

Her father was Herman M Zarnstorff who was married to Bertha Kresen. Bertha's obituary (12 Dec. 1946 in Pell Lake, Walworth Co) lists Hazel as "Mrs Hazel Bragg"--someone hit the wrong key. Herman and Bertha had twelve children--some names I know; most I don't. I think some died as infants or children. Anyway; here are the names I have: Hazel (of course); Edna; Esther; Florence; Clarence; Raymond and Clifford. One of the brothers married a woman named Hazel--just to make things more confusing. Bertha's obituary also mentions that she was survived by two brothers; William and Herman of Chicago. Bertha and Herman were married June 5, 1897 in Genoa City, Walworth Co. I hope this information is something you can use. If you need more; I'll see what I can find. Julie

I just finished a crazy week and will be heading up north for the weekend this afternoon. In the next 2 weeks I'm planning on checking the land records and obits to see if anything pops up. Meanwhile FYI. When General Sheridan negotiated the treaty with Chief Big Foot regarding Lake Geneva, Fontana area, there were 2 main rules for the land. First, since they believed that the Cedar tree was how the spirit ascended, they hung the dead in like a hammock in a cedar tree, therefore no cedar trees can be cut down around the perimeter of Lake Geneva (& 200 feet back from shore), & in what is now called Cedar Point Park located in Williams Bay. Second, there must always be a walking path around the shoreline so that at anytime anyone can walk the path (26.3 miles around), it can never be truly owned by anyone. Believe it or not even with the 2 to 20 million dollar estates etc on the shorelines, these agreements are still honored here. My sister and I have walked the path. Also prior indian burial mound areas were unknowingly destroyed in Lake Geneva, next to the library. Once it was confirmed that this was the case, the family who owned the property tore down the outbuildings and donated the land to the city-with the provision that no buildings would ever be built on the land. It is now Library Park. Many people come to picnic there and yearly there is a Pow Wow and cultural fair. It is also the main starting point for walking the path. Anyway, I just thought you might appreciate the "trivia". ~Georgia

Well, I have been still stumped with the group we have been working on. You mentioned that Mae ended up with the Wheeler's. Oddly enough,I am finding a ton of Indian with Wheeler surnames. So, as my mind works (lol)...Wondering if maybe there was a connection between the Lewis to Wheeler's as well? Hence Mae ended there witht them after her parents died. Well just another stump in the road. Lee
