    1. [WIWALWOR] Historic House Workshop by Delavan Historical Society
    2. Peggy Gleich
    3. Delavan Historical Society press release Contact: Peggy Rockwell Gleich 608-752-8816 <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] House History Workshop to be presented by The Delavan Historical Society Have you often wondered about the genealogy of the house you live in? Or your grandparents home? What about the property in your town or even in another town? The Delavan Historical Society (DHS) wants to help you find the history of your historic home and has asked professional preservation consultant and speaker, Carol Lohry Cartwright of Whitewater, to speak on Saturday, 13 March. The program will be held at the Community Bank's Community Centre, 820 E. Geneva St. in Delavan. Ms. Cartwright holds an M.A. in History from the UW-Madison and has been a Historic Preservation Consultant since 1985. She will provide strategies and examples of how to use local resources to research historic properties. She will also explain how to go about determining the style, age, previous owners, and whether there was any historical interest connected to the property. The similarities to tracing down your family genealogy are remarkable when researching the history of your house. Carol will discuss how to find more information about the people who lived in the home. She will have examples of properties she has researched in the past and bring copies of her report, "Architectural and Historical Residential Survey Report for the City of Fort Atkinson." Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 9:00. Pre-registration is required as only a limited number of seats are available. If this program fills quickly, another program may be scheduled soon. Reservations must be received by 6 March. DHS will have house history books for sale, as well as a variety of DHS items: postcards, photos, calendars, and maps. Members will be manning tables of various Delavan and area displays. Refreshments will be served. The program, including Questions & Answers, will conclude by 12:30 p.m. The registration deadline is 6 March and the cost for will be $10.00 per person. Reservations are necessary as seating is limited. If this program is filled quickly, another one may be scheduled soon. Send a self- addressed and stamped envelope (SASE) to the Delavan Historical Society, PO Box 746, Delavan WI 53115 and request a workshop flyer. Or you may call Beth Peters at 262-728-5703 or Peggy Gleich via e-mail at: [email protected] for further information. The Delavan Historical Society recently celebrated its first anniversary and is knee-deep into several projects. They need more help from the community, more new members and space for growth. If you can volunteer or help in any way, please contact an officer. Dues are $10.00 per year for an individual, $15.00 family, and $25.00 for a contributing membership. You may sign up for a membership at the same time you register for the workshop.

I finally got my Norman Pratt's service records. There was no record filed of their marriage! But if you have the Griswold names from that cemetery you had mentioned I'd like to know who they are(again?). I have yet to positively identify Juliet/Judette/Juliette's parents although I think they most likely were Alonzo & Mira who moved to the UP of Michigan by 1870, if they were then Judette had siblings- one named Charles for certain. I have yet to find any of this family in any 1860 census records! I also found Judette living in South Haven,Van Buren Co, MI in 1910 census, a widow. It stated she had 5 chn & none were alive at that time. I only knew of one & perhaps the others were children of her 2nd husband's (Lemon Olds) prior marriage. Pris

The can not provide it at this time to government agencies and genealogical societies. This just happened in last week or so and we had no warning of this. I have requested the tech support guy (who volunteered to do it) go to his management and ask if there are plans to get it back, will this happen with any others, and suggest they post something on the web page for those who are trying to access something they have had and paid for. The nice guy (who I have had contact with prior and he did what he was suppose to) will get back with me as soon as he can get those higher ups to respond. When I hear I'll let you know too.
