My recent experience suggests it is far better to go thru the County for Death Certificates than the State. In Jan and Feb I requested death certificates from the state for my ggf and ggm. both checks cleared in Feb. I sent a letter 21 Apr requesting the status, they gave me the order numbers they assigned for each request and advised it generally takes 3 to 6 months to complete. I am still waiting! In frustration I ordered them thru Taylor County on the 26th of April and received my ggm's death certificate today. apparently there is no death record for my ggf who died 11 Jan 1887, they returned my $7.00.
