She was born November 11, 1921, the daughter of George and Amanda Rooney in Chicago and at the age of 16 she began singing in the church choir. The family moved to Hudson in the winter of 1952 and she was a member of the Bethel Lutheran church choir for 25 years, and a member of the congregation since 1956. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she participated in a number of opera workshops in the Twin Cities. As a hobby, she wrote two novels that she had hoped would some day become television mini series. She was a hard worker for most of her adult life, sometimes holding down three jobs. She worked for 32 years at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, then in the evenings she would do book work for the Casanova Beverage Company in Hudson. On Saturdays she would do book work for various companies in the Twin Cities. Surviving is her son, Bruce Lloyd Currey of Minnetonka, Minn. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Jim Rooney; and sister, Alvina Rooney. The funeral service will be at 5 p.m., Friday, July 30, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. The Rev. Dennis Nelson will officiate, and music will be provided by vocalist Roberta Pominville and organist Delores Willi. A Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 29, at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Hudson, and for one hour to the service at the church.
