Simon, 14, just recently moved to Colorado from Hammond with her mother and stepfather. At this year’s Hudson Relay, Simon said she hoped to be able to make the move with her family and to see where they would be living before she died. Simon’s health was clearly deteriorating at this year’s event, but with the help of her sisters, Angel and Jessica, she was able to light the torch that officially opened the 2004 Hudson Relay. She participated throughout the entire 18 hours of the event. Simon is survived by her father, Todd Simon, her mother, Bonnie, her stepfather and her sisters. Simon’s family will be bringing her back to Wisconsin for the funeral and burial.
