He was born April 3, 1973, in Eau Claire, the son of Thomas and Arlette (Gutknecht) Jorgensen. His mother, Arlette Jorgensen, owned and operated the Hudson Flower Shop on Locust Street for a few years in the 1990s. His childhood was spent in Eau Claire and in 1984 the family moved to North Carolina, where he graduated from West Henderson High School in 1991. He attended Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., where he graduated with a degree in industrial design in 1996. On Aug. 23, 2003, at the at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., he was married to Lisa Roche. He graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., with a degree in mechanical engineering in the spring of 2003. While at the university he led his team in the design, and building of a human powered submarine. His team won first place in the International Submarine Competition. At the time he died, he was employed as an engineer at Performance Cruising in Annapolis, Md., developing the Telstar Trimaran with his partner Neil Smith. Through grade school and high school he was involved in football, baseball, tennis, radio controlled airplanes and model making. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, fly fishing, scuba diving, salt water aquariums, water and snow skiing, rollerblading, playing the guitar and sailing. Surviving are his wife, Lisa (Roche) Jorgensen; his parents, Thomas and Arlette Jorgensen of Menomonie; a brother, Matthew, of Madison; a sister, Teresa, of Eau Claire; and his maternal grandmother, Lillian Gutknecht of Franksville. The funeral was at 11a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at the Evangel Assembly of God Church, 3906 Kane Road, Eau Claire. Visitation was at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial is in Forest Hills Cemetery in Eau Claire.
