Wiech, 58 Friday, October 22, 2004 Gary D. Wiech, 58, of Hudson, died Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Hudson Hospital emergency room after 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born, May 6, 1946, in Red Wing, Minn., the son of Donald and VonCeil (Lifto) Wiech, and graduated from Hastings (Minn.) High School in 1964. During the Vietnam War, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy. He attended the St. Paul Technical and Vocational Institute, specializing in pipe fitting, and was an active member of the Pipefitters Local 455 for 35 years. Most recently, he worked as a project superintendent for the Harris Companies. For 15 years he was employed by Ramsey Construction and other mechanical contractors. On May 21, 1983, he married Robyn Peake in Harlowton, Mont. He was interested in sports, was an outdoorsman and an avid Vikings fan who relished a Packer defeat, enjoyed a quiet day on the golf course and loved watching his daughter, Darci, excel in sports. As an outdoorsman he was enthusiastic about camping, boating and traveling. While living in Montana, he enjoyed hunting big game but locally he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He was a trustee of his church and at one time was a member of the Hudson Lions Club. Survivors are his wife, Robyn; three children, Darci and Geof Wiech, both of River Falls, and Greg Wiech of San Diego, Calif.; his granddaughter, Jessica; his parents, Donald and Vonnie of Red Wing; four siblings, Vicky (Dan) Bottema of Clearwater, Minn., Marlis (Denny) Whitmore of Red Wing, Minn., Dennis (Kathy) Wiech of Hastings, Minn., and Kevin (Betty) Wiech of Hudson; seven nieces and eight nephews; his parents-in-law, Ed and Betty Peake of Paso Robles, Calif.; and two brothers-in-law, John (Jodi) Peake of American Falls, Idaho, and Bob (Tawny) Peake of East Helena, Mont. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, William and Ann Wiech and Gerald and Zella Lifto, and his niece, Beth Ann Wiech. The funeral service was at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the St. Croix Valley United Methodist Church in Lakeland. Visitation was at the church from 3 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Tom Burns, Tim Emmons, Brian Wert, DuWayne Davisson, Mike Ganz, John Hand and Scott Miller were casketbearers. A dinner/roast immediately followed the service at church Wednesday evening where friends and relatives shared memories.
