Barrett, 94 Wednesday, August 04, 2004 Helen F. Barrett, 94, formerly of Hudson and Downing, died Friday, July 30, at the Terrace View Living Center in Shell Lake. She was born April 1, 1910, in Chetek, the daughter of William and Laura (Hessel) Birkholz. She graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1928 and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., were she graduated in 1931 as a registered nurse. On July 12, 1934, in Iowa she was married to Jean L. Barrett. They returned to the Rice Lake area where they lived until 1942 when they moved to Vancouver, Wash. In 1945 they came to Hudson, where they operated Barrett Printing Co., 422 Second St., until retiring in 1977 and moving to Downing. She remained in Downing until 1994 when she moved to West St. Paul. She was a registered nurse for 52 years and worked in a number of institutions including Hudson Memorial Hospital. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jean L., in 1983; three sons, Roger F., Ronald J., and Robert M.; three sisters, Ann Birkholz, Agnes Kolf and Lorraine; and a brother, Arthur. She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Cindy) Barrett of Barronett and Richard (Lois) Barrett of Plum City; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mabel (Bill) Johnson of New Richmond, Clara (Randall) Peavey of Tacoma, and Billie (Anthony) Ingrassia of Arlington, Va.; and a brother, Fred (Ann) Birkholz of Albuquerque, N.M. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Boyceville with Father Jerry Hoeser as celebrant. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Osceola.
