Thompson, 83 Wednesday, July 28, 2004 Paul Oscar Thompson, 83, of San Diego, Calif., and a former resident of Hudson, died in a San Diego Hospital, Thursday, July 22, of complications after open heart surgery earlier this month. He was born in Stoughton, in 1921, the second son of the Rev. and Mrs. Oscar C. Thompson (Matilda Stene), and came to Hudson in 1923 with his parents. His father was pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson from 1923 to 1948. He was raised in Hudson and attended schools here graduating from Hudson High school in the class of 1939. In high school he was active in musical activities, debate, football and basketball. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., with a Bachelor’s degree, in 1943, and immediately joined the U.S. Navy where he had duty in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. After he resumed civilian status, he attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a Master’s degree. He took a position with the U. S. Navy in San Diego as a researcher in animal bioacoustics until his retirement. Funeral services and burial were in California. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Dr. Donovan J. Thompson in 1991.
