The crossing Johannesburg was named for him, I believe. I met a older woman named pearson in the 80s who told me what my family never did-all about Grasmark and Sunne.I went to Grasmark in 1981,1984, and 1985. I was told about the kryko, or killing frost that nearly starved everyone, making them anxious to come to America. My family visited the home place in about 1980 above the Apple River, and my wife was completey taken with the beautiful setting of the farm, high above the Apple River valley .We will go back. Our people are buried in the first row of the old cemetery, I recall. I went to family reunions in the 50s as a child, did not return until the 80s. My telephone # is 651-452-1097, I live in Eagan, and 2 of my neighbors came from the Grasmark area too! Jon Berquist and another whose name escapes me. I 'll have other things to tell later-Glad to to have found y! ou on the net-Jim Gilbertson
