Ruth was born the daughter of Russell and Mildred (Welch) Parnell and was raised in Somerset receiving her schooling from St. Anne’s Parochial and graduating from New Richmond High School. Ruth worked as a surgical tech for many years for St. John’s Hospital in the Twin Cities, Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond, and River Falls Area Hospital. She was united in marriage to Dick E. VanKeuren to which children Steve, Deb, and Mike were born. Ruth was the dedicated owner of Canine Sports And Training in Hudson where she trained many dogs over the years. She also enjoyed traveling and photography. Mass of Christian Burial was 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Somerset with Father James Brinkman officiating. Memorial visitation was one hour prior to mass at church. Interment was private. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to American Cancer Society.
