Wagner, 74 Mervin C. Wagner, 74, of River Falls died Monday, Nov. 25, at the River Falls Area Hospital. He was born in Spring Valley July 13, 1928, the son of William and Emma (Eddick) Wagner, and graduated from Spring Valley High School. During the Korean War period he served two years in the U.S. Army in Texas and overseas in Germany. For 30 years he was employed by Buerkle Buick Comapany in Vadnais Heights, Minn. He was married in 1956 to Verlene Amundson. In 1986, he and his wife took over the operation of the Hudson News Agency from Phil and Lucy Gearhart in the distribution of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch in the Hudson and North Hudson area. At that time, about 1,500 papers were delivered on a daily basis and 2,400 on Sunday. Surviving are his wife, Verlene; his children, Becky (Leonard) Ruka, Pamela Wagner, David Wagner, all of River Falls, and Cynthia Green of Prescott; four grandchildren, Eric Wagner, Andrew Ruka, Kimberly Ruka and Danielle Green. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Willard and Desmond; a sister, Marguerite; and a son-in-law, Michael Green. A private funeral service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Cashman Mortuary in River Falls. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, where his four grandchildren, Eric, Andrew, Kimberly and Danielle, were pallbearers.
