Blaisdell, 80 Donald Burton Blaisdell, 80, a former resident of Hudson, died Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Osceola Hospital. Since leaving Hudson he and his wife have lived in Luck, Siren and Dresser. He was born in Minneapolis Dec. 13, 1921, the son of Elmer and Florence (Collett) Blaisdell. He grew up and attended school in New Auburn. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army Oct. 14, 1940, and served 43 months overseas in the Northern Solomons and the Southern Philippines in South Pacific Theatre of War. He accumulated many service awards including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and six Overseas Service Bars. He also was the highest rank in the Legion of Valor for the state of Wisconsin. On April 20, 1956, he was married at St. Patrick's Church rectory in Hudson to Diana Mary Frey, daughter of the late George P. and Bertha (Kroboth) Frey. He and his wife and family lived in Hudson for many years. He held a number of jobs, first as a butcher at John Hooley's Public Provision and then in construction work, masonry and plastering. For 25 years he was employed as a maintenance engineer for Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) in St. Paul until he retired. He enjoyed playing cribbage, boxing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Elmer E. Blaisdell Jr. and Edwin J. "Bud" Blaisdell. Surviving are his wife, Diana of New Richmond; two sons, Michael H. (Lori) of New Richmond and Timothy (Diane) of Roberts; a daughter, Julie Ann (David Marshall) Blaisdell of Hudson; a brother, Jack Blaisdell of North Branch, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
