Gaynor, 79, died Sept. 29, 2002 Dr. Glen D. Gaynor, 79, of Hudson, a longtime civic leader, died of a heart condition Sunday, Sept. 29, at United Hospital in St. Paul. He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Springbrook, Washburn County, the son of Lloyd and Anna (Neste) Gaynor. He was a graduate of Spooner High School in 1940 and of Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo., where he received a doctor of chiropractic degree. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps in the early stages of World War II and served from 1942 to 1946 as an aviation flight instructor. On June 10, 1948, he was married to Gloria Toftness at Salem Lutheran Church in Shell Lake. In 1950 Dr. Gaynor opened his chiropractic office in downtown Hudson, where he served his patients until his retirement in 1979. His retirement did not stop his involvement in the community. He was a charter member and past president of the Hudson Rotary Club, the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association and the Hudson Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding board member of The Phipps Center for the Arts and a founding member and chairman of the board of the former State Bank of Hudson (now Wells Fargo Bank). Also he was a member of the American Legion in Springbrook and a former member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks, No. 640 (now defunct). He enjoyed playing golf or bridge with friends. He took great pride in the log home that he and his wife built in Springbrook. Whether fishing in the creek, deer hunting or spending time with his family, he cherished time spent at the cabin. Surviving are his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Kathleen (Adrian) Hendrickson of Westby; three sons, Jeffrey Gaynor of Fort Myers, Fla., Steven (Barbara) Gaynor of Fridley, Minn., and Richard (Patricia) Gaynor of Cottage Grove, Minn.; three sisters, Doris (Douglas) Thompson of Spooner, Alice Johnson of Rice Lake and Barbara Gaynor of New Richmond; and 10 grandchildren. Local funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Hudson with Fr. John Rasmus officiating. At the service, organist Delores Willi accompanied the singing of Dr. Forest Toftness and Susan Hendrickson and the violin playing of Emily Hendrickson. A special brass ensemble performed comprised of Emily Hendrickson, Susan Hendrickson, Kaitlyn Gaynor, Curtis Gaynor, Megan Gaynor and Richard Gaynor. A second funeral service was at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Springbrook. Burial was in St. Luke's Cemetery, where casketbearers were Darrell Youngberg, Richard Mockler, Dr. Gerald Emholtz, Dr. Merlin Groskopp, Gregory Hendrickson, Curtis Gaynor, Douglas Thompson and David E. Cleveland. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
